    Sailplane performance trends

I've been lucky enough to be able to DS my RC planes. But this would be a whole new kind of fun. :) I've smacked the back side of the mountain enough to know I'd never try it on a ridge shear in a full scale, but an inversion shear, that would be much much safer. I hope to find the right...

Am I making a stupid uninformed decision?

If you are thinking of building because you think it's cheaper, don't do it. Used ultralights can be found for generally less than you can built one for. Do a web search for used aircraft for places to keep an eye on. The right deal will come along. In the three months that I've been looking...

Free Minimax plans now up and running

The reduction drive does two things: it reduces the propeller tip speed and in increases the torque. If you don't know about propeller tip speed and why it's important, do a google search on it. More torque allows you to swing a bigger prop. The strict answer to your question is "no", but there...

    Some people never learn

The proverbial three strikes and you're out! :/ It's remarkable how we have blind spots in our character. As careful as I am, I know that "thinking things are fine" is one of mine. I've learned the hard way to be overly cautious.

Ultralight plans (new builder please help)

Not yet! But let him get in the air and fly it around a little. I think we'll have to wait for a new wing design too, before we see any plans. I offered to "pre-order" the plans because I like it so much. But it's a no-go till he's ready. :/

Ultralight plans (new builder please help)

Yes, that's a more reasonable time frame. But, even still, life will throw all sorts of reasons at you to not get it done by then. So, stay focused, and you will make it. :)

I bought a bow off a gentleman AT as well. I've hunted the last three years with it. I hope you enjoy yours as much as I do mine. Mine isn't quite as nice as yours though, but even still, the deer and elk can't seem to outrun my arrows. ;) I'm a "glass is half-full" kind of guy, so this...

Bob Hoover pouring tea as he rolls the airplane and dead stick landings.

I saw the Shrike Commander promo film with the ice tea bit as part of my aviation class way, way back in high school. It left an indelible impression on me as a young aviator. I have very, very few people on this planet I hold in high esteem; he is very close to the top of the list.

Get in the air! You won't find what you really want until you are flying different planes. Start working for those flight hours. :)

    Part 103 Regs changes?

Yes, you can register a 2 seater as an LSA, but it then falls under all the rules and regs for LSA, meaning you have to have a license to fly it, and annual inspections, etc. The 2 seat " ultralight trainer" exemption went away when the LSA thing happened, effectively killing off ultralight...
