Cubby Aircraft Factory in South Africa

As with most companies, covid has also set us back in our development. We are glad to say that we are about to start assembly of two of our product line-up. One is the Cubby Renegade and the other is the Cubby Maverick. The Renegade being the slightly bigger of the two. As we progress I will...

Cubby Aircraft Factory in South Africa

Just an update of what we at the Cubby Aircraft Factory are busy with. We are preparing an airframe and wing to display at Wonderboom Airport near Pretoria in South Africa , there is an Aviation Expo taking place from 4-6 July. The same folks that organize Aero Friedrichshafen in the south of...

Cubby Aircraft Factory in South Africa

We have today finished with the redesign of the Cubby`s tailplane , from a fixed stabilizer to an adjustable tailplane for trimming the aircraft. I must say nothing aviation is ever as simple as it seems at first glance, one small "change" leads to 8 other changes, costing uncalculated $`s . The...

3/4th Scale Replica Bell P-39 Airacobra

I have to agree with CharlieN, I have built , refurbished and rebuilt a number of aircraft over the past 22 years and can say , I am glad I started with a refurbish job. Someone that has never built a full scale aircraft from kit or plans .......tread carefully. It can turn into a bottomless...

Electric trim motor for adjustable tailplane

Thanks for all the feedback, I have taken to using an electrically operated jackscrew motor capable of 500 newtons, (50kg). This works on the leading edge of the tailplane. Now of course the maths needs to be done to see if it is indeed strong enough, not just under normal flight , but in a gust...

Electric trim motor for adjustable tailplane

Thanks for the replies guys, I must apologize for not being more specific. It will have to be a motor that can turn a jack-screw. I want to replicate what the PA18 Supercub uses, but want to use electrics instead of the cable and pulley system. Jean

Electric trim motor for adjustable tailplane

Does anyone here know where I can acquire such an item at a reasonable price? I am busy designing an adjustable horizontal stab for our Cubby aircraft that we produce in South Africa. At present we still use the trim-tab in the elevator, however, the adjustable stabilizer makes for a much better...

Cheap aircraft are simply impossible? :(

In my country ,South Africa there is a saying, " The words cheap, safe and aeroplane , cannot be used in the same sentence". I have found this to be true, by experience. A new LSA type should not as a rule "break the bank". Look outside of America for affordable aircraft. The Dollar is strong...

Cubby Aircraft Factory in South Africa

We will at first have just the basic kit for the export market. Bear in mind 1)the frame is powder coated,2)the controls are powder coated and installed , 3) the wing construction is done in the factory jig, 4) the windows are pre-cut,5) the instrument panel is cut , with the instrument holes...

Cubby Aircraft Factory in South Africa

Hi Dougwanderson , yes it will be available in kit form,in fact in standard and quick build. The target market is all LSA pilots, and even PPL pilots wishing for some affordable flying. Ready to fly for now will only be for the home market in SA, but ready to fly is in the planning for the...

Cubby Aircraft Factory in South Africa

Actually no, this was part of our redevelopment excercise. Our cockpit length from the firewall to the rear seat backrest, is the same as a full size Supercub. A friend of mine is 6ft 3 and he fits just fine. Here is a photo of a chap who is the proverbial "giant", sitting in a bare frame of...

Thanks Marty. As the saying goes..." The mill of Justice grinds exceedingly slow..........but exceedingly fine !! " One can only hope that Mr Counts is aware of what awaits him, it is certainly no good for one`s reputation to do jail-time..............mind you, also not good for the self...

Anyone using Revmaster R-2300? Like it/hate it?

JBAZ, I will see if we can make a video of my aeroplane flying with the Revmaster. My aircraft empty weight is 325 kg, and all up is just over 600kg. It performs very well indeed. Regards Jean.

    preceptor aircraft

I have a copy of the Dec 2012 Kitplanes magazine. In there is an article by Amy Laboda, on her trip to South Africa and a visit to a couple of airfields. It gives readers a good bit of info pertaining to the kit builders and pilots in my country. She mentions a Cubby that was hand-built by the...
