    Building a 1:2 spitfire?

My recommendation would be to go a bit bigger, and build a Tally-Ho 80% replica: Bruce's 80% Spitfire Project

    New Merlin blocks

This is just the information I was looking for; thanks all! Tom: the original idea was to build an SLS machine of our own, with a 4'X6'X4' bed, and use it to make runs of engine "kits" with block, rods, cylinders, heads, et cetera all done at the same time. Obviously I haven't dug deep enough...

    New Merlin blocks

Other parts could be fabricated as well; pistons, rods, heads, valve covers, just about anything one would need could be manufactured this way. Possibility: new engine "kits?"

    New Merlin blocks

Here's a thought: SLS-printed new engine blocks for warbird engines, say for "new" Merlin engines. A friend and I have been tossing this idea around for a couple days and we think we can build a big enough machine to do this. The question is, what would be necessary to get this new block...

    Stewart S-51 plans where?

Sorry for the thread necromancy, but there's news! It seems that recently the rights and all for the S-51 changed hands as the result of a breach-of-contract suit. A group in Alabama has them now and is helping current kit owners finish their aircraft, with future plans to restart kit...

    Weird gunsight idea

Okay, so I'm thinking/dreaming about eventually building a Tally-Ho Spitfire, and during my musings I come across this idea: an 80% Spit would have a roughly 80% cockpit, which would make a full-size gunsight a bit big. How abouts we make an 80% replica of the GM2 Mk. 2 reflector gunsight...

Those discussing MATLAB; May I suggest Http://www.scilab.org instead? Almost a direct copy of ML, but it's a free download.

    TallyHo Has a New Owner

Hey all: Got some news about the TallyHo Spitfire replica. Due to medical reasons, Terry Wilshire had to sell the project. The new owner is Steve Foley of Foley Flight Leasing. His plan is to proceed with the development of the project, ultimately to kit form as I understand it, and possibly...

    Marcel Jurca Aircraft Plans

$1850 for the 75% Spit plans? Thanks anyway, but I'll stick with the Tally-Ho guys.

Air mail in an earlier and more optimistic era

Near as I can come, it's a Kellett KD-1 autogyro.

    Lost Medical, Sold Aircraft...

A sad day, indeed. Glad to hear he wasn't hurt, though. How goes getting the medical back?

    Spitfire paint

Sorry Spodman, the "late war" comment was an attempt at humor. Thought the winking smily would give it away.

    Spitfire

Update on the Tally-Ho Spit: I sent Terry Wilshire an email yesterday inquiring about the project. Here's what he sent back:

    Spitfire paint

Not an expert, but what I've read indicates that the early-war Spits were painted flat to minimise reflections/glare. Later, they found that gloss paint gave them another 5-7mph, so later in the war they were painted gloss. Since yours is a "MK26," it would be late war, so gloss wouldn't be out...
