    AN BOLT GAUGE

Here's a reference guide for many other things you need yo know in the airplane factory...print on 11x17 for best results. http://www.donsbushcaddy.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderfiles/workshop_reference_guide.pdf

    What tires are you using....

The rubber used in the Bushwheels is entirely different. When going over a large rock the rubber folds over the rock, absorbing it. The Goodyears will just roll over the rock, lifting the plane with it. I run them at about 7 psi. They are also significantly lighter than the goodyears, by...

    Maine to Alaska

Danielle, welcome...I am about 200 miles south of you. Sounds like you have the perfect spot to build. You definitely need to figure out the pic posting thing...we have to see pics!!!!

    What tires are you using....

Alaskan Bushwheels: Alaskan Bushwheel Airstreaks...26 x 12 x 6....they are just as good as everyone says they are. Worth every penny.

Single or multiple buses, what is better and why?

VFR was my mission, with an EFIS, two radios, xpdr and audio panel. I did one buss...very easy to switch a few items on and off separately. I have a battery buss as well with the usual items hooked to that. I used a fuse (automotive type fuse) block and grounding tabs from:B&C Specialty...

Economy Nicopress Tool - any good??

Get the swaging tool that looks like bolt cutters, it makes short work of the swages and they are adjustable. If you are an airplane builder, proper tools are a good investment and I bet you will use it more than once. You absolutely need the go, no go gauge and I cut the cable with a piece of...

    Crossing small expanses of water.....

I recently flew the Hudson River Corridor and just like Sully, if I was going down, I was going in the Hudson. I wear one of these if there is even a likelihood that I will be going over water, very comfortable to wear and you don't want to be trying to get one of these on while going...

Where to buy fuel sight gauge

When I built my plane I tried to find exactly what you're looking for and could not. There are some made by American Legend Cubs and also Rans however these are only going to work with their gas tanks, due to the distance between the fittings. You will have to fabricate gauges that work for...

Flush Rivets and Low Profile Rivets

Another Bushcaddy builder I know used flush rivets on his wings (Avex 412 rivets), the standard configuration is with dome rivets (Avex 410 rivets)...these are pulled rivets and the wings have about 1000 rivets on each side of the wing. Bottom line....made absolutely no difference in airspeed.

When to Give in and Start Over

I think by the time I finished my airplane I had actually built three. Part of the process is making mistakes and learning from them...the bigger mistake would be not recognizing that you completely screwed that piece up and actually installing it in the plane. So instead of being frustrated...

    Sheet Metal Brake

Here are some plans and direction on building one...ths guy was a Zenith 601 scratch builder and did a really nice job coming up w/this: http://www.ch601.org/tools/bendbrake/brakeplans.pdf

    metal prep

As Dana said, CAD plated hardware should be left alone to the extent it can, obviously some parts will get painted. I also highly recommend the primers Joe highlighted, I used the zinc oxide...within two weeks it will cure very, very hard. I used the zinc oxide on all the internal structure...

Design of Rudder Pedals with Differential Braking

Well you have the gamut of answers here. I can only tell you that I went through the exact conundrum on my brakes as you are on yours. To reach my brake pads I had to lift my feet off the floor and I thought I should be able to actuate them with my heels on the floor...this was all before...

Our club in the middle of the streams

Hi George, Is it ok for a taildragger to fly in and say hello? I'm out of KGHG, Marshfield and I'm looking for a place to fly this weekend...looks beautiful on the island!! What radio freq do you guys monitor? Thanks...

    GoonieBird Gets New Legs...

When I built the plane I added custom Hydraulic Struts, only problem was that I was too early in the engineering curve...the fabricator should have used heavier duty die springs. They were 8" springs that compressed a total of 2". Just sitting on the gound w/o fuel, pilot or passengers the...

    Aileron Trim?

I have it on my plane but don't really use it...in fact right now I have the springs disconnected. I would probably reconnect for a long flight. I think Topaz has it right. Not sure what the setup in a 601 is but maybe you could set it up as mine is and this does not require running a cable...

    Aileron & Rudder Hinges

Vector, I don't think you'll find a specific hinge as I believe most are fabricated from a few parts which would be realtively easy to put together...as in the attached pic. Hope this helps.
