What aviation news, blogs or e-mail newsletters do you actively read?

I'm mostly watching YouTube channels, mostly ultralights and drones, but also some Redbull races, historical, and air show content.

Open cockpit, seaplane, biplane, tandem dream.

Looks like I'm done traveling for work for a while, so I'm resurrecting this thread so it doesn't become archived. Don't want to lose all the good info :)

what kind of floats are those? Thanks for the movie imbed, loved it.

    Hybrid tiltrotors/tiltwings

a 14" rotor has 12.25 times the area of a 4" rotor, so only needing 12x the power would be a net gain. (area = pi*r^2). not to mention effective area of a rotor that actually moves the air negates the measurement of the hub. something to consider: you keep mentioning acceleration and then using...

    Computational Software (Mathcad)

I hate to endorse software piracy, but if it's an old version you're looking for thats no longer for sale, it is extremely unlikely that anyone would come after you. This is probably even more true if said software was release under prior ownership of the company. Thats assuming that you can...

    Mass moment of inertia?

Thats what i get for posting on a forum when working through the night. It made perfect sense when i thought it, now i see my thought path was glaringly wrong. That is a really interesting plane. Is the upgrade simply to shave a few pounds for performance, or is it in need of a new power plant...

    I dig it

Hello all, I always thought that flying would be another unrealized dream, but its gaining a second wind in my life so to say. I've always had a soft spot for open canopy slow flyers and lighter than air rigid airships. The early days of flying has always been an interest to me. I have a bunch...

    Roadable Aircraft DESIGN

just pump your gas into a really long hose thats connected to your gas tank and put a check valve on the end and use a hand siphon to drain the hose when youre done.

    Mass moment of inertia?

if i understand this setup correctly, the CG would be behind the seat and infront of the motor and battery? if he reduces the weight of the engine that would bring the CG forward. couldnt he just relocate the battery to the front at a distance that would restore the proper center of gravity?

    Hybrid tiltrotors/tiltwings

F=Ma can be derived to be F=1/2M*V^2 (a= 1/2V^2, so we just replace a in F=Ma) meaning that you get much more benifit from more velocity then you do with more mass. example= 3 objects launched at a wall hit with 10 ft-lbs of force object 1 is going 2 ft/sec so it would have to be 5 lbs...

    Hybrid tiltrotors/tiltwings

well theres so much crap in the Detroit river that its basically hydraulic fluid, so maybe hope isnt lost, lol. seriously though, with that information i've officially given up on the water jet idea.

    Hybrid tiltrotors/tiltwings

the 34 foot mark would then be the highest point that you could start the suction, so thats the cap for landing maneuvers. If you already have a primed system with water on both sides of the pump, you would be able to go higher on takeoff because the atm pressure would be irrelevant... right?

    Hybrid tiltrotors/tiltwings

This one is WAY out there but I might as well mention it. A compressor system similar to whats used in SCBA (firefighter) tank filling feeds a pressure vessel*, slowly over time. You expierience small parasitic loss while the vessel is charging, once its full you disengage the blower ** and...

    Hybrid tiltrotors/tiltwings

I don't want everyone to think I'm simply championing the water jet idea because I think it's best. It is just something I've been rolling around in my head for a while so I dont really have to think about the answers. With that said, if yuo keep the suction end of the hose submerged about a...

    Hybrid tiltrotors/tiltwings

They use a 1500cc engine rated at 115hp and get 430 lb of thrust combined from the two nozzles. The boat unit weighs 650 lbs but this includes the hull as well. I'm not sure what would have to be done or how much more power you would need to get the system to leave the water, let alone with an...

    Hybrid tiltrotors/tiltwings

I thought that water jet would be the cheapest proven way to do it. What don't you like about it? There are obviously countless things that can go wrong but as far as power required per lb of thrust I think it would be the most economical. If you didn't have a holding tank for the water it...

Open cockpit, seaplane, biplane, tandem dream.

Tandem is important to me, at least 2 or 3 seats, how tough would it be to add another seat? I'm a mech. engineer and i work in refineries, so piping is my thing.

Open cockpit, seaplane, biplane, tandem dream.

Does this have to remain always a dream for me or are there some kind of plans out there that would hit all these criteria? Basically I've always wanted a plane like the one in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. I just want something with an open cockpit that's easy to fly nice and slow that...
