Thoughts on folding or removable wings for keeping a plane at home

I'm going to try a cheap drywall hoist for solo connecting of my hi-max wings. It should support the whole wing at any angle with quick and easy height adjustment. It's got to be better than my giant sawhorses!

    Soloed in Hi-Max!

Right on pylon! EGT gauges are the best, quickest way of monitoring engine health. (In my opinion) Also the rpm lean-zone.

    Soloed in Hi-Max!

The seizure theory is a sound one. Ethanol can also cause a mild seizure on a two stroke. It's a very aggressive solvent that washes away our only means of lubrication.

    premix oil

Seems I heard on some 2-smoke forum that oil actually burns hotter than gasoline.

Thanks Countach! Everyone has an opinion on the gearbox oil. What do you use?

    B-box

Hi guys, I just bought a Hi-Max with a 447 up, and a B-box down. Unfortunately, the previous owner has health issues and isn't able to converse. Anyway, the gearbox has a threaded hole on each side about 1/2 way between the top and bottom of the gearbox. I would surely think that these should...

    Greetings from a Newbie!

Hello all, Fairly new to the site but have been lurking for a while. Not exactly new to flying, with about 50 hrs. in Cherokees and 152's spread over 20 years of training. I suspect that a few of you can relate to the cost of training being prohibitive for the common Joe. I've got close to the...

    Why the animosity towards ultralights?

So very true Pops! Freedom has been slowly and methodically evolving to mean something entirely different today than it did 242 years ago.

    phantom wing removal and re-assembly

Hey Dana, Thanks for the reply, but I don't understand. You mean with any aircraft? If so, I guess I'll have to wait wait for a firefly that I can afford.

    phantom wing removal and re-assembly

Hello all, I've come across a very good deal on a phantom x-1, and I've wanted one for a long time. My problem is that I don't have a hangar, so even though I know it'd be a pita to break it down and re-assemble every time I fly, I would have to. Is there anybody else who is forced to go this...

    Great Plains engines

Hi dalek, Cool to see you on here. I have a 1600cc vw that I'm going to use on my v-himax. It's straight out of a mini bus and I was told that it ran good. (yea right)! I got it for a song, and plan on doing a complete overhaul and aircraft conversion anyway, so it really didn't matter to me if...
