    Gotta make this exhaust part

Have you tried Tube-Fab in Mississauga? I have used them for thin wall aluminum in 1.5" dia for an STC'd fuel system mod I was involved in. They are not cheap but they know what they are doing. www.tube-fab.com

Congrats TX! That's a big milestone!

    How did you choose?

Do you want to build or do you want to fly? I enjoy both but the flying is more important to me so I bought a completed aircraft. I can tinker with it or start a new build anytime while being able to fly when I want. There is a Thorp T18 in Fredericton that might suit your needs, fly it while...

    2016 Pentastar engine... worth considering?

I don't think it has anything to do with aluminum vs iron block, your block might be a few pounds lighter than the old Ford 3.8l V6 iron block. The thing that people seem to forget on the modern engines is the weight of the DOHC cams, chains and 24 valves. 4 cams with those long chains and...

    JSP so404 torch?

Here's a Smith AW1A on ebay now, just need to buy some welding tips. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Smiths-Cutting-Torch-Outfit-AC-309-Torch-Hose-and-Regulators-/274212580039?_trksid=p2385738.m4383.l4275.c10 I've had one for 30 years now with this same cutting head and a selection of welding...

Harbour Air’s Electric Beaver has Flown!

Here's a link to a COPA article that tried to correct some of the media's reporting errors immediately after the first flight. https://copanational.org/en/2019/12/12/harbour-airs-e-beaver/?utm_source=wysija&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=COPA+eFlight-20191212 Ron

Crashes in the News - Thread

Correct, all 737-100 through 737-900 the left cutout switch kills the main electric trim and the right switch kills the autopilot trim. The two switches now are essentially in series and either switch will kill both main electric trim and autopilot trim. This was most likely done for 2...

Gear Box Failure @ 43 Hours

This was most likely two separate failures. The primary failure was the gear failure in the gearbox, the secondary failure was an engine overspeed after the gears failed and removed the load to the engine while the throttle was at high power. The engine connecting rods failed due to the overspeed.

    Ebay Today

No serious trigonometry required here, the diameter of a circle is always twice the radius. 29.5 inch blade will be a 59 inch diameter prop.

    Boeing - Design Issues...

Uncommanded trim that is trying to hurt you is basically the definition of runaway trim. The runaway stabilizer procedure (which is a memory item, not something you are expected to look for in a checklist) has existed all 737 models since the 737-100 in 1967. The stab trim cutout switches have...

    Mogas vs. 100LL?

Rockiedog2, Continental had fuel injection optional on the A-50, 65, 75 and 80 prior to WWII and continued with the C75, 85 and 90 post war with no electrics required. My 1946 C85-12FJ (fuel injected) loves 91 octane E0 but I don't have the optional mixture control so it runs lean on E10 and...

    Continental O-200 fuel pump fittings

The mechanical fuel pump on the small Continentals is tapped with a straight thread when manufactured, but uses standard 1/8-27 NPT tapered fittings. I guess the straight thread had less chance of scrapping a housing by tapping it a bit too deep. See the O-200 parts catalog for the OEM NPT...

    Anderson KingFisher Float Planes

Hi Ken, Certainly it had a lot of good parts included and will give you a great start especially if you can find a well built fuselage to go with it. I got the Volmer trailered home from Saskatchewan on Labour Day weekend so now the fun (and the work!) begins. When it's flying I will eventually...

    Anderson KingFisher Float Planes

Hi Ken, Are you buying the one that was built out west but has never flown? I went to look at it early in July but it needed far more work than I had time for. I kept looking and found a Volmer Sportsman project that I should be able to get flying before the snow hits us again. Good luck, Ron
