Low aspect ratio sport plane ideas

Thanks Tom. One last question for now. I am sure you addressed this somewhere on the forum but I've been unable to find it. Concerning the location of the CG on the centerline chord you have stated that the 25% point was required for the circular planform such as the UFO. What is the...

Low aspect ratio sport plane ideas

Tom, in comparing your faceted reverse Zimmerman models to fully curved leading edge models (such as eliptical reverse Zim or round UFO) did you find any difference in spin resistance? I ask this because if I remember correctly Zimmerman's report stated that the round planform had absolutely no...

Ultralights in Central and South America

My previous research ( about 2 years ago) showed that the homebuilt rules in Belize were about the most simple and free of anywhere I looked at.

Flying wing as cheap and simple option for basic fun flying.

Take a look at this Brazilian version of the Pelican for a really different modification of the "seating" arrangement. http://bird-craft.com/index.html

    Da-2 major modification

I wonder how much you could pick up by adding leading edge slats ala zenair?

Can a Challenger/Excalibur have folding wings?

I asked the question to the Excaliber owner in Sebring just before the holidays because I have the same need to tow the aircraft home for storage. It does not presently have a wing fold feature and he responded back a couple of days before Christmas that he was moving ahead with plans to add the...

    Simple pusher pseudo-jet

The BD-5 seems like a starting point for something that would be a piston pusher with jet appeal....just larger with simpler construction such as rectangular wing and larger tail surfaces. It could be single place or sbs seating if 2 place.

    Tandem-wing control arrangement?

Matthew, I guess the point I was trying to make is that the performance of these tandems exceed most that I've seen from conventional configuration aircraft and they are also 3 axis allowing excellent control and stability including stall resistance while appearing underpowered by today's standards.

    Tandem-wing control arrangement?

If the performance stats are accurate for such tandems as the (1) Peyret Taupin (utilizing only 25hp achieved 49' takeoff run, 96' landing roll, 19 mph stall with flaperons? on all four airfoil surfaces) and(2) Delanne 10-2c (7.5 speed range ratio with 40 mph stall with controls on rear airfoil...

    Airfoils using straight lines aft?

Barnaby you use an "airfoil" in your Facetmobile in which the rear top and bottom surfaces are straight lines as in the Dan Rihn series but the sharp stall is not present (even with the front surfaces also being straight lines). Therefore am I correct in stating that the planform can overcome...

Aluminium Honycomb Building Tips and Techniques

Delta, do you have any data on this wing ( such as length, span, aspect ratio, wing loading, etc.) or drawings and CFD data? It sure looks like an easier to built Facetmobile or Vorhees delta type aircraft. Also how is the stability profile and CofG sensitivity of the model in flight?

    Single Tube Fuselage idea

I agree that a mono-wheel mounted close to the lower wing strut attachment point would be a very light and rigid solution.

Flying Fleas are more than just 2 axis. No problems with crosswinds!

The DragonCub and Pouchell's have a basically rectangular wing planform vs. a gracefull almost elliptical one for the classic fleas. Given the obvious difference in build difficulty are there any performance, stability or other capabilities sacrificed for the ease of construction?

Just when you thought it was safe....Gnat GK-7

Gnat, you said: "One example wa was using the foam core instead of making multiple ribs and possibly multiple forming blocks etc. The bonded wing skin is for example done instead of riveting, but it also produces a very accurate smooth airfoil with no finish work. And the wing is **** near...

    Low aspect ratio ultralight

I have a question concerning the general application of low aspect ratio planforms to ultralight aircraft. The UFO used a circular planform and the Little Bird used a Zimmerman planform with similar performance supposedly due to low wing loading. I am wanting to compare a Reverse Zimmerman...
