Airplane For Sale Spotted: 1941 Stinson in KY. Dang.

Yes I know, thank you. Chris’s L5 is a beast of a tube and fabric taildragger and sounds like the warbird that it is when he launches from his grass strip, which is about a half-mile East of mine. I’m not trying to sell this airplane in KY. I don’t know the owner. I just came across it and...

Airplane For Sale Spotted: 1941 Stinson in KY. Dang.

I have not. I’ve only seen a Stinson L-5 Sentinel, my neighbor has one. It’s a very substantial airplane for a rag and tube aircraft. It has documentation that proves it participated in the WWII battle of Okinawa.

Airplane For Sale Spotted: 1941 Stinson in KY. Dang.

Hmm I did not realize the Franklin was such a negative. Parts would be a consideration. So 90hp makes a two seater a dog? I see many Taylorcraft and Cubs with either 65 or 85 hp engines and they seem to do well for their designed mission. Is a Stinson an exceptionally draggy airframe or is a...

I’m not a smart man Jenny but this seems to be an amazing little airplane for the asking price. I’d love to own it. No, you don’t have to log into Facebook to view it. Just tap or click somewhere on the screen when you arrive. https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/840393654325245/

Great way to waste about 3 hours

ironnerd I just started reading Antoine de Saint-Exupery’s Wind, Sand, and Stars and OMG what an amazing author he was. I’d recommend this book over ANY video if one seeks a few hours away from this crazy world.

On a related topic, a quote from the NTSB final report for the (successful, meaning the pilot walked away from the wreckage) Montrose, CO Zenith 750 forced landing in the snow on a mountain ridge (Viking 110 engine): ”A postaccident examination revealed no mechanical malfunctions or anomalies...

    Children

That Chinook rear door is a good seat. Quite the view. A Hawaii National Guard Soldier, a Marine? and what looks to be an 11th ACR patch on the sleeve of the crew chief, who will have a tough time eating his crayon wearing a Maxillofacial shield. And put those flight gloves back on!

    Adding Fuel Fitting to Tank

Why not just remove the tank from the wing and do the work on a bench? Drilling out all those wing skin rivets is time consuming but not that difficult.

Follow up to the ATR crash this past January in Nepal, it was as suspected. Condition lever mistaken for the flap handle. Followed by mistaken feathering of the operating engine. Unbelievable. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-67838436 Note the mention that Nepalese air carrier operations are...

    Bah Humbug... and Merry Christmas

Every day is a gift regardless of our plan. You went for a walk in the woods rather than flying because that’s what His plan was for you yesterday. Merry Christmas! And yes, weather is still today, in spite of all our advanced knowledge, more art than science. I too occasionally experience...

Crashes in the News - Thread

Yeah it will be challenging. There will be pressure on the school to keep their cadre and students safe while also keeping any other aircraft they have in that configuration in service to keep making schedule and money. What we don’t know is what they (Diamond and the engine mfg) may already...

Well done by the Diamond crew. I wonder if the NC flight school has grounded any remaining diesel powered DA40s in their fleet and requested technical experts from Diamond and the engine manufacturer to come interview the crew, conduct a failure analysis and make a recommendation as to how to...
