    Nylite wheels

I used to build and race Karts in school 79-80, nylite wheels rings a bell. I have some scrap split rim glider wheels, same idea. I can take some photos of later today to show the valve stem port from the inside. For gliders we often have to use tubular valve extenders to get air in, or a screw...

    Neutrino Microlight Sailplane

Jet, makes its presence known in someone the other videos. From the airfield bungee start it looks to have a reasonable climb rate. Will be burning 1kg/min of fuel, but would only need 3 to 4 min to get to a thermal. Rather lighter version of the Glowfly project, which attempted to use an...

Tailless, but with a small hat?

My understanding is that the "tailplane" on the Genesis sailplane is purely an elevator, as to comply with the standard class sailplane rules flaps (read elevons) are not permitted.

What do you think about "e-soaring"?

BYD is starting to import 300 mile range cars to the UK with LiFe batteries. This implies that the batteries have similar power/mass density to the old tec cells used in the sailplane FES system, so must be getting in the ballpark for a self launching UL sailplane?

The Case for Tandem (Monowheel) Landing Gear

Having had a ride in one the monowheel Europa definitely has some pace for the power but is somewhat directionally challenged on the ground.

    Weight variations?

I am currently recovering and repainting an Olympia 463 all wood sailplane, which had its original doped cotton fabric finish, no evidence of significant repairs since built in 1964. I previously owned another 463 which was 40lbs heavier than this one. This seemed to be largely due to the...

    New Build Russia AC-4KC

We used to have an me7 (same thing) at my UK club. Fun thing is they always look like they are going really fast, some sort of scale effect🙂 If you need any ideas for trailer fittings pm me, may be able to help as I've done quite a few Pete

What do you think about "e-soaring"?

Possibly easiest to do using xc soar (open source) on Android or Linux. The xc vario project has an android display with lots of wire inputs, also open vario, or Android phone if you can sort the bt feed.

Design at new version of the Fournier Motor Glider

There is a k16 at my club. Listed as 25-1 ld and 200 ft min sink.the owner says he soars it cross country in reasonable uk condition, but only without much headwind. Retract uc looks like something from ww2 era

Need your opinion/honest advice, old motorglider

The piggyback system was called TOP, fitted to Astir and ASW 20. It was self launching, they occasionally come up for sale on segelflug.de. hate to think what it did to to the glide performance of an Astir.

Need your opinion/honest advice, old motorglider

The British Gliding Association have developed an inspection procedure for Schleicher Wooden gliders due to gloue failure problems, this will give you an idea of how to inspect the glider. gliding.co.uk Pick the members area from the menu and search for wood glider glue inspection proceedure...

    Balsa, balsa w/fiberglass laminate

It was used as the primary core material in most of the early composite sailplanes, wing skins, spar shear webs, even fuselage skins. Quite a few of them are still flying 50+ years later, so yes it works. There have been some issues with moisture ingress and mold in specific types and...

    Today's Sketch

Thanks. I understood that! Given the customer base is unlikely to be large, once you have constructed the control system is it relatively transferable to different airframes? The question occurred to me because I fly flapped sailplanes, which tend to have mad spider things in the fuselage to mix...

Motorglider , will this be enough power ?

The LAK 17AT sailplane has been self launched off grass, has 23hp and weighs around 800lbs, though probably near sea level. Best climb around 400ft/min @54kt, if that's any use as a reference.

    Electric homebuilt aerobatic glider

Maybe the original 12m Silent motorglider converted to electric might work, though dont know about the aero potential, but the fuz seems to be the same as the current one they fit FES to. I remember watching a sizeable electric RC sailplane. Short burst of power during thesequemce made a huge...

    Straighten bent tube idea

I have straightened out trailer frame tubes. You need a rigid beam to clamp at either end, either outside to pull or inside to push. The ends have to be spaced off the tube to over bend to allow for springback. You can pull with a clamp or ratchet strap, or push with a jack. Wouldn't do that for...

The difference between winglets and higher a/r

In sailplanes winglets are held too improve aileron response, putting it crudely acting as fences limitin transverse flow across the outer end of the ailerons. Tip extensions often make things worse. This may not be as significant at lower aspect ratios. Sailplane winglet design is clearly...
