Not to be annoying, but the eta maxed span out at 30.5m or pretty exactly 100ft. ;) JoS

    Reviving Brightstar Millenium

A friend of mine and I fly a Millenium in Australia - not sure how it ended up here, I just bought into the partnership later. Flies well, and this particular glider has been foot-launched at Stanwell Park. We now launch by aero-towing... but I would be willing to run off a hill with some...

Mitchell Wing B-10 - looking for data

Thanks Hot Wings - that's good info. Interesting, the same view in our drawing does not have that CG note... sheet 6. Also pretty faded blueprint. On another note the pilot "cage" is exactly the one we have been given - so I assume that at least we are talking about the same version. Cheers, Jo

Mitchell Wing B-10 - looking for data

It was built with a Ciba-Geigy epoxy adhesive, so should be fine. My biggest worry are dark stains on the leading edge we believe a possum urine..... but as far as i could tell it shouldn't damage the ply, just looks ugly. No extended exposure to water otherwise.

Found the stabilator details (angles etc), but no global CG....any help appreciated! Jo

Mitchell Wing B-10 - looking for data

Assiegordon, is the CG indicated in the plans? Could not find it - but realised we are missing sheet 1, which I assume would be a plan view etc. Could you let me know where the CG range should be (conservative number preferred)? Many Thanks!

Mitchell Wing B-10 - looking for data

I agree, and i'm actuall seriously considering modifying the controls to a normal stick - we have a cage made for the FAR103 version with 25hp engine, but that might be replaced.

Mitchell Wing B-10 - looking for data

Thanks for the offer "007" - the airfoil is a NACA23015. I studied aerospace, which is why i much rather have tested and proven data ;) especially regading CG. At this stage i don't even have a precise 3-side view.

Mitchell Wing B-10 - looking for data

Hi All, apologies the n-th thread about this little wing, but: We just have been given a 95% completed Mtchell Wing B-10, built to current state in Melbourne, Australia, in 1983(!) from a kit. Plans / kit was sold in 1982, it's the wooden version with upside-down stick hanging from the wing...

Motorglider , will this be enough power ?

No clue about the calcs discussed here, but I have flown the Atos VR with "Mosquito" powered HG harness many times -which MIGHT have 12hp on a good day. Climb rate was absolutely sufficient (maybe 400 ft/min up or more), start run (look Ma' no wheels!) maybe a dozen steps. One flight was with...

Would planes be better if they were more like birds?

This thread is a treasure chest of info on bird flight - thanks all! Don't know how i missed this for so long.... I'd like to understand though how a lot of these ideas could aver be applied to human flight and the large Reynolds numbers and wing loading typically involved? My understanding is...

    Looking at Sandlin Goat.

I've flown a Goat a mate of mine built - great fun! I think ultralight lessons (or wood and fabric glider experience) would be helpful - but it' not a difficult aircraft to fly. Turns are largely flown by rudder, stick just controls bank angle. Straight stalls are benign with my weight (~ 75kg)...

    Struts on a Glider

Apologies if this has been mentioned before.. similar to a few here i have designed (and started building) a microlift glider - mainly because staying sub 70kg makes life so much easier in down-under - it becomes a hangglider with no certification requirements. If building in carbon, the mass...
