    Rudder mass balance

I didn’t consider that. I think I will leave the weight out. Going to call Zenith tomorrow.

    Rudder mass balance

This one? https://apps.dtic.mil/sti/tr/pdf/ADA955270.pdf I’ll read it, thanks.

    Rudder mass balance

I am building a CH 750 Cruzer. Apparently at some point Zenith stopped putting a mass balance in the rudder horn. I will be operating near Vne (if interpreted as a TAS, they don't specify) as I am at high altitude and am installing a turbo so I would like as much flutter margin as possible. I...

free builders log: We Build Planes

To revive this thread, the site is still up thankfully. I really like the build time graph. I elected to go with my own wordpress site because webuildplanes has not been updated in years and development appears stopped. I think a feature where it would print out your log to a PDF with nice...

New two seater jet aircraft from Sonex

No updates from Sonex on this plane since last year, lots of stuff on the high wing. Anyone know if they are still working on it and/or have it at Oshkosh?

    Anti-ice for experimental.

I was looking at putting a few ultrasonic actuators in the leading edge, there has been some work done on this for helicopters. I'm not sure I want to put the effort into it. Bleed air was mentioned - ironically I think a piston engine has more "bleed air" via the exhaust. The windshield heat...

    Garmin GEA 71 / RS-485

I am trying to build a cellular based engine data upload box based on a raspberry pico. The engine data comes from a GEA 71, which has an RS-485 output on it. Also would like to be able to use the GEA 24. I believe I can just tap off of this with something like the below. Curious if anyone has...

    EAGLE and Gami G100UL

They said today they aren't approving it due to "logistical issues" and it needs more "testing". They haven't told George anything about additional testing, or much of anything. I can't imagine what additional tests they could come up with.

    Erosion tape

I actually misread this listing, looks like it is 4" WIDE and I can order it by the foot for $6/ft and I only need two feet: 3M™ Polyurethane Protective Tape 8672 - 4 Inch - Clear | Aircraft Spruce The plastic cover is curved in a U shape (the front of the wing) and it is a pain to replace, the...

    Erosion tape

I’m trying to find some erosion tape for an in-wing landing light plastic cover. It’s about 5 inches wide. Anyone know of a cheaper option than this stuff? They sell it in 4 inch strips but then there would be a seam. https://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/cspages/3m_8671polpro.php?clickkey=70456

    Turbine Twin Velocity

Anyone heard any news on this? I think the project is neat, anyone have specific fuel consumption on those PBS engines? I assume it will perform a bit better than the XL with a 550 but less fuel efficient, probably less range, more expensive engines, and higher overhaul/inspection costs. That...

Veloce 600, 6 seat pressurized twin auto-converted engines.

This is an interesting airplane. Two things struck me about the information so far: 1. Reliability data of these engines seems to be from automotive applications, but major parts of the engines in this application differ, and 2. Pressurizing a cabin for these altitudes is very hard. Both of...

    Celara again

There should be a museum somewhere with failed aviation projects, Bede supersonic jet, Raptor, this flying <censored>, Adams twin. I'd pay to see it, they are always very cool ideas that someone, despite the laws of physics or economics or both dictating won't work, went ahead and tried to make...

Anyone have a Zenith 701 or similar, on floats, that they land at high altitude on tiny lakes?

I am also interested in performance at high altitude for a 750, which is probably in the ballpark of a 701 with floats. I'm stuck between the ULPower 4 cylinder, 6 cylinder, and the Lycoming YIO-233. Anemic climb rates in the mountains are terrifying when it is windy, which is most days. The 6...

    Zenith Homecoming 2021

I got in Friday afternoon. That gas pump is very slow. Mu favorite was a Cruzer built by I think his name was Jay Carter. Rigged his own elevator controls. Whole plane was extremely well done. Wide variance, another guy I think used house paint… not knocking him to each their own…

UN hails end of poisonous leaded gas use in cars worldwide

Believe it or not this has been tried before, the Tesla model S was designed with a swappable battery. There are many reasons it doesn’t make sense, and to start with EV owners use chargers far less than gas cars use gas stations, because we all have a gas station in our garage and leave home...

UN hails end of poisonous leaded gas use in cars worldwide

It’s not consumer behavior it’s the availability of the product. Most cars in the showroom floor will be electric, that is a dramatic change from today and already announced. Almost no automakers are developing new IC engines. The 33% is new car sales, it’ll take much longer for a third of all...

UN hails end of poisonous leaded gas use in cars worldwide

By everyone I suppose I meant more people than not ("oh you still have a gas car?"), but it will happen more quickly than I sense people believe. Today, EVs are still a novelty to the average person. In a couple of years everyone will know someone who has one, and it will likely be the next car...

UN hails end of poisonous leaded gas use in cars worldwide

The only thing stopping widespread G100UL is cost. The government will fix that (and not by making UL cheaper). It’s been forever, I can’t say I’m totally against it. interesting to see what happens to gas prices when we’re all driving EVs.

    Raptor NG Discussion

”We‘ve improved this design by putting a turbocharger in front of the compressor, which should bring efficiency in line with the cheaper diesel we will be replacing this with”.
