    Thoughts/experiences on financing an airplane

Yes, i searched, but- I am looking to resume my flight training and have been considering the options. I feel like I have had enough of the flight schools, and am considering purchasing a suitable trainer- some variant of 150/172 or Cherokee most likely- and then hire an instructor. This...

Parts For Sale Sonerai II L fuselage for sale

Earlier this summer I picked up a second complete Sonerai fuselage with the idea my son might want to fishi building it as to have matching aircraft. However, his interest is a little lower now- discovering females- and when he does think about airplanes he is more interested in the Taylorcraft...

    Great Plains cast Intake Elbows

I know this is a long shot, but does anyone out there who is building or maybe just has some leftover parts hanging around have a set of the cast intake elbows from Great Plains? I have a set ordered but Art seems to be having some trouble getting everything in stock. I really would like to move...

    Wing Folding mechanism/hardware photos

Does anyone have or can take some good photos of the wing folding hardware etc.? Trying to make a decision on welding on the folding wing attachments of not, and I cannot find pictures of them anywhere.

    Input on 0-235 rebuild

Not wanting to contaminate the discussion in the For Sale section, I bring this here where it probably belongs- I have an 0-235-C1 that I intend to mount on my Vari-EZ. The engine data plate shows HP at 108@2600rpm leading me to believe it is a 0-235 C-1C version of the engine that came with...

    Drain holes in fabric?

Just about ready to cover the Sonerai back up and it occurred to me that the existing covering had drain holes in the elevator, horizontal stab, and maybe the rudder. I cant really recall, and did not take enough pictures to be sure they were not there on the rudder. I am wondering if the drain...

    Colin Chapman Lotus Aero engine

I forgot about this one. Light, modular so it could be built in 2 and 4cyl versions, and made by Lotus.

    Sun-N-Fun tips and info

First year going to Sun-N-Fun so any input is welcome. We are coming in Wednesday, will have my wife and oldest son with me. Leaving I think Sunday AM as my son has school on Monday. Since we are flying commercial in we are limited on what we can bring with us.

    Exhaust for Type 1

I do not really like the stub exhaust on the Sonerai and am going to replace it. Initially I was going to do a 4-2-1 or tri-Y exhaust but at the engine speed the engine will operate at I am thinking that a simple 2-1 per side will be more than adequate. I would use 1.5" SS tubing into a 2 into 1...

    Anyone added cockpit heat?

Staring at the Sonerai IIL today I found myself underwhelmed with the top mounted cooler, as the way the existing ducting works there is likely very little airflow through it. So I began contemplating using a n 8x11 aftermarket oil cooler with air ducted from the front of the cowl and out the...

    Propeller and carb ident

Pulled the carb and prop of the Sonerai this morning. The prop seems straight forward 52x 40 but no idea who made it. Seems to have a serial number stamped into it. The carb I think is a Revmaster, but I'm not sure. Seems very similar to an Aerocarb/injector but not that spiffy red AeroVee...

    Stitch vs metal clips?

I pulled the covering from the elevator of the Sonerai IIL today and was a bit surprised to find metal clips instead of the expected stitching. Any input of one vs the other would be welcome.

    Lights?

As I am waiting for the glue and paint products to arrive, it makes sense to run all the wires etc., especially in areas that will be tough to get to later, like the tail, and the wings/wingtips as they are stripped and prepped for paint. My intent is to have the red/green/white lights in the...

Prop recommendation for 2276 on the Sonerai IIL

Since I am pulling the mystery motor off the plane and building a cool new 2276, it seems like a good idea to get some feedback and input on prop choices. Not sure what is on there now but I will know soon. I am considering using Joe Person to build me a prop, but am open to suggestions.

    Sonerai II L larger rudder

I have read about and seen a video of a larger rudder for the II L and was wondering if anyone had drawings or other information about it. I am preparing to recover the fuselage and it seems like the ideal time to build a new rudder.

Sonerai IIL build thread discussion- take 2

Not sure what happened but the original discussion thread seems to have disappeared. Build thread here-https://www.homebuiltairplanes.com/forums/threads/sonerai-ii-l.39755/ Feel free to comment on the sometimes less than smart things I do.

Missing logbooks, changing N-numbers, and other things to discuss

The Sonerai is missing its logbooks, but indicates 400 hours on it, 100 of which the previous owner admits to having left the power on the plane while "working" on it. The plane has an airworthiness certificate and data plate, but not much else in the way of documentation. To correct this my...

Ok guys, school me on these different fabrics!

I thought automotive paint systems were confusing until I started reading up on these fabric systems! Please help a total newb as to the system(s) that will best fit my needs. The job at hand- Repair OR recover the Sonerai IIL fuselage and tailfeathers. It looks to me to be about 14-15 yards...
