    New rotorcraft concepts

You've seen tractor gyros tend to roll over?

    New rotorcraft concepts

Sorry, what’s the point of counter rotation on a gyro? Normally there is no engine torque trying to spin the craft (and no need for a tail rotor). Is this complication intended just for jump capability?

    The Legality of Logos?

I am not a lawyer, but I agree with Dana: better to beg forgiveness than ask permission. Downside is that the Co makes a stink and forces you to repaint. (Also, best not to kill anyone while flying.)

    Building a VW Aero-Engine

Pops - thanks for posting the short Flywheel-Drive VW video. Very helpful for those of us turned wrong way 'round! Can you say a bit more about your solution for pressure sealing and lubricating the end bearing & shim(s)?

    The Fields Luxury fly-in Resort

Don't know him personally, but judging from his public persona, seems like a solid guy. CEO of FreightWaves (provides market intelligence on the freight industry). Self-described black sheep of the Fuller trucking family (US Xpress). Lives in Chattanooga. Enthusiasm for flying seems sincere...

Sold Woody's Pusher by HL Woods

My problem first came to light those many years ago training in R22 helicopters where the flight school owner was an A&P, who cobbled together wrecked Robis and put them on the line with young CFIs desperate to build enough hours to fly oil platform support off Louisiana. The cyclics typically...

Sold Woody's Pusher by HL Woods

FWIW, after 20 years of suffering carpal tunnel (in the wrist, affects first 3 1/2 fingers) & cubital tunnel (in the elbow, affects the other 1/2 of the ring finger and the pinky finger) on both sides, finally got the surgery. Symptoms are gone. Amazing

    Sold Rotec R2800 w/all upgrades

Did you send your older R2800 to OZ to be rebuilt or do you have a shop in the US that can do that?

    Sold Rotec R2800 w/all upgrades

Best bang for the buck. I've got one too. Also early billet head model, upgraded including new stainless collector ring and less than 10 hrs on the Hobbs. Good luck. Are you switching to a Verner?

Controls for Flea on Floats ?

Matthew, to me it doesn't look like the Tahitian Flea has water rudders. Do you happen to know?

Controls for Flea on Floats ?

    Fascinating. Thanks

Controls for Flea on Floats ?

I think this suggests that with a Flea there is very little transition on and off the step because instead of pitching up by forcing down the tail with elevator, the front wing itself pitches up.

Controls for Flea on Floats ?

Thanks for your comments, which I hope to decipher. Meanwhile, FWIW, here’s a note (imperfectly translated, I am sure) by Jacques Arnaud about the handling characteristics of his HM293 in Tahiti. I don’t think his remarks are directly on point to the issues you raise, but you might find them...

Controls for Flea on Floats ?

Thanks for the input, Matthew. I suppose in that case (for my purposes) no rudder pedals at all would be needed.

Controls for Flea on Floats ?

Yes, of course the Flea has no ailerons. As you know better than I, some builders have added pseudo three-axis controls, typically on the rear wing. The primary justification for this seems to be lateral control taking off and landing, particularly with a cross wind. Purpose building a...

Controls for Flea on Floats ?

I am in the process of acquiring a Flying Flea (Pou de Ciel) HM293 project. My intent is to finish this project specifically to fly on straight floats. No brakes needed, but it would be nice to have water rudders. If that's the case, wouldn't it make sense to connect both the water rudders and...

Twin-VW engine Push-Pull design idea (The "Beetlemaster")

Counter-rotating props would help. How about mounting one VW "conventionally" (pulley-end forward) and one flywheel forward?
