I can't get any response out of the Stewart Headwind Facebook Group. Have they merged here, or just gone to sleep?

Why so few UFO's are seen by pilots

I saw the Phoenix Lights. The very next night two amateur astronomers were on the local TV news saying how they had been out with a large telescope and looked at the Phoenix Lights. They saw rivets and screws and aluminum and said it was definitely not a space vehicle. That interview was never...

    Camshaft specs

The Buick and Oldsmobile V8 engines of the mid 1950's would idle dead smooth at 250 rpm. Some even slower, you could follow the radiator fan with your eyes. It was mesmerizing. In 1969 I saw a new Toyota fork lift demo. That 4 cylinder engine ran so smooth the salesman sat a coin, a nickel, on...

    You know you are old when;

I worked at the Railway Express Air Express office in the early '70's. Little shack on the west side of T-1. On Sunday afternoons Barry Goldwater would fire up his P-51 Mustang and rattle our windows. Terminal One, Railway Express Agency and Barry, all gone now.

    Aircraft Ash

Todd, I've never built an airplane but I have rebuilt a half dozen or more canoes in the last couple of years and ash is just the thing. I have replaced gunwales both in and out, carry yokes, thwarts, lift handles, and seats, all done with ash I have sawn from planks. Seats are made with no...

    The source of lift

And with that lift just look how low and slow he can go. Why people on the ground look like ants. Wait, they are ants.

    Straighten bent tube idea

Find a custom bicycle frame builder in your area. If it can be fixed, they will know how to do it. And they work with very thin chromoly all day long. Some of those guys can straighten a multi-thousand dollar racing bike frame using hardwood blocks and a bench vice.

    Corrosion R Us

At my age I hate hard work. Or at least the pain in my hands after the hard work is done, so I have found a paint and rust removal service here in Phoenix. These people will remove paint and/or rust right down to bare metal in large vats of chemicals with no damage at all to the base metal. The...

    Off topic, thinking about today.

What was the first airplane you flew in and how old ?

Around 1961, age 10 my best friends dad was taking lessons and would fly low over the house and wave at us. One day he came in and asked us if we were ready to go flying. He had his ticket and he had just bought an old Luscombe, a 1948 if I remember right. It had a triangular shaped rear seat...

Four stroke, and I should add that it runs on carburetors.

Inverted inline two cylinder direct drive fourstroke 40hp/3000rpm ideal engine.

Kawasaki EX500, vertical twin cylinder, 180 degree crank, water cooled, counterbalance shaft to smooth the engine, compact, reliable as a nail. 50-55 HP. Very smooth running, I made 3 or 4 trips to southern California on one, from Arizona, and it cruises effortlessly and smooth at 80-90 mph...

Q-200 Kit transport from VA to CA

A couple of years ago we rented a U-Haul truck in Flagstaff, Az and took a load of furniture to 29 Palms, Ca. When we arrived in 29 Palms the local agent couldn't find any info on our rental to figure our total charges so he told us just to forget it! He was just happy to have another truck to rent.

Not just the UK, either. The light bulb at the end of the tunnel is growing dimmer by the day.

Too many birds around your airfield? Get some pigs!

Some years ago in Phoenix, a landing airliner hit a drunk man trying to play chicken with the aircraft. As I remember the aircraft was not damaged, but the drunk suffered substantially.
