    Gillespie or Ramona?

Howdy all. I am working at Miramar for a couple weeks, and was wondering if there are any KSEE or KRNM based pilots that may want a tagalong for some evening flights? I can be at KSEE after 4ish, it may take a few more minutes to get to KRNM, but I would absolutely love to fly in/out of there at...

Seeking comments on gravity bleeders such as Homebuilders Brake Bleeder

I used the same concept not long ago using clear tubing, safety wire, and a clear ketchup/mustard squeeze bottle. Worked like a champ, although my fingers were cramping up by the time we were done.

Why is GA continuing its demise?

I’ll bite…I have zero use for an Icon. It looks fun to fly, but if I won one in a lottery I’d sell it and buy something else. The insurance for an amphib is cost prohibitive for me…that’s a personal “me” and others that live in less arid climates may feel otherwise. I’d choose big bouncy tires...

    A 55% SR-71 Blackbird under construction!

Come on…spill the beans… this is actually the new NGAD, built within the confines of the GAO budget, isn’t it?

    Chinese military gyros

Very true, but one must remember Murphy’s Law of Combat #46: If the enemy is in range, so are you. And with 00, that would be a pretty short range….. unless you fired it from a cannon.

    Cable tensionmeter?!

You’d have to figure out how much tension is applied between the riser blocks, and then extrapolate that tension and distance to a free hanging cable, which would also be dependent on length and of course temp. It’s possible, but not easy. Much easier to just buy a tensiometer and measure with...

Why is GA continuing its demise?

You said a mouthful there, Pops. 👍

    Cable tensionmeter?!

In very basic terms, you are measuring how much force it takes to deflect the cable x amount of distance. A loose cable will deflect (bend) easier than a tight cable. In theory you could do this with a fish scale and a tape measure, if you want to do the math. The calibrated cable tensiometer...

    Fastener Heads

Agree. Pizza wheel style cutters are used a lot in aviation, but they are not, or should not, be used as a driver for hi-torque/coin slot fasteners. (Seen it before…it’s cringe worthy.) That said, Snoopy made a very useful wrench that found its way into many a tool box. :)

    Fastener Heads

NAS585 or NAS1578 are decent examples of the hi-torque/coin slot fastener heads. As alluded to earlier, there is a difference between Hi-Torque and Coin Slot, but the terms are often used interchangeably, as are the tools to remove and install them...which is also incorrect. Those fasteners are...

The FAA has huge resources for the full span of Aviation... and is NOT JUST the source of annoying/interfering regulations/regulators.

I literally spit my evening beer on my screen. Well played, sir. I haven’t laughed that hard in a while.

    G100UL Approved

Max Trescott interviewed George Braly back in February on Aviation NewsTalk Podcast. He explains a lot of the testing. It’s a great podcast, and I would have no problem running G100UL in any high performance engine. They even tested it in a Curtiss Wright 3350 supercharged radial.

    Trailers and wheel placement

You're right. I knew the length of the smart car, but thought the avg trailer width was wider than that. A quick search remedied my false assumption.

    Trailers and wheel placement

Is keeping the Smart car inline with trailer centerline absolutely mandatory? The car is pretty short. He might be able to get away with parking the car at 90 degrees on trailer and building sideramps, like many ATV trailers. If that's possible, the car could be on/off-loaded without moving the...

    Another nail in the coffin...?

You get a lot of free perks by ordering from Aircraft Spruce. For instance, I can order 2 bolts and a washer, and when it gets delivered, I have enough brown craft paper to stuff and wrap every Christmas and Birthday present for the rest of the year. :pilot: 🎁

Parts For Sale Rivets and rivet gun

I believe the N2 gauge would have came out of a Lockheed L-1011 or similar. Neat piece of aviation history.
