Why battery-powered aircraft will never have significant range

"Some" airplanes require more. My Xenos requires "Less" power than my electric car at similar cruise speeds. (12kW @ 65mph vs ~15kW for my car) It's entirely possible to build an electric airplane that matches or exceeds any current car. Aptera perhaps excluded... And perhaps even mroe...

What do you think about "e-soaring"?

Yes this aligns with a lot of the data I have seen for an open draggy ultralight. An electric b-lite needed 12kw, the aerolite 103 needed 12kW both for cruise. The e-gull can get under 8kW with a clean and light build! My eXenos needs just a smidge over 10kW for level cruise with 1 person, and...

    Saving Ultralights From Being Banned

Sorry if this was mentioned elsewhere. Part 107 "Ultralight Vehicles" are NOT "Aircraft". The rules are very specifically written in that manner so the FAA does not have to regulate them as they are not "Aircraft". If the ordinance bans "Aircraft" it would not apply to Part 107 "Ultralight...

Part103 in every way but does not meet stall speed? Thoughts?

Go read Part 103. The FAA very specifically references "Ultralight Vehicles" and NEVER calls them aircraft. I see your quoted definition, but the FAA is not always internally consistent. Is a paper airplane or a frisbee an aircraft? How about a kite-board? What about ski-jumping? There's a...

Part103 in every way but does not meet stall speed? Thoughts?

Let's be clear. Ultralights Vehicles are not "aircraft". Go read part 103. The FAA says these are not aircraft, and therefore they want nothing to do with them. This is literally the point of p103, it absolves the FAA of any responsibility, they don't want it.

Part103 in every way but does not meet stall speed? Thoughts?

Asking questions about an ultralights' stall speed and weight is like asking a woman's age or weight.

    New electric project

You correctly qualify this as "at the Sonex max cruise speed". What I meant was at "each aircrafts most efficient cruise speed". For the Xenos this is somewhere around 55kts. For the Sonex will be maybe 60-65kts (need data). I have already generated the power/speed curve for my Xenos. What we...

Generally yes, as flight duration is the primary metric especially when factoring legal reserves.

    New electric project

Tom, the intent of my OP was exactly what was stated in it. To inform folks of my new project and see if there were any airframe options I should consider. No hidden agenda. Not trying to make money, sell a product, profit or benefit in any way. The only intention is to build something awesome...
