    CAD for wiring diagrams

Depending on your needs and wants, you could also consider programs like Visio or LibreOffice Draw. I've been using LibreOffice Draw on my Hornet and Challenger wiring diagrams. There is a learning curve and you do need to create most of the aviation related symbols yourself, but it's been...

    Homebuilt Ballistic Parachute

The instructions didn't really talk about the chute but rather a way to deploy one using a drogue chute. The instructions did include information on making the small drogue chute (about 2' on a side, square shape), using diagonal spring wire.

    Homebuilt Ballistic Parachute

Years ago I bought plans from CIRCA Reproductions, Inc. (Graham Lee) in Canada for an "Emergency Chute Deployment System" that basically used a drogue chute to pull the main whole-airplane chute from a 4 or 5 inch tube that was hung under the wing. It's shown mounted on a Chinook ultralight...

FAA check rides in EXPERIMENTAL AIRCRAFT

That's interesting. I have a Commercial license, but am flying as a Sport Pilot (ie: DL medical). I've received a couple of flight reviews in Cessna 172's in the last three years and the only issue that I had was to ensure that the instructor giving the review knew that I was flying under Sport...

    As Seen On BARNSTORMERS

Kitplanes magazine had a review (Durand Reinstatement) with a flying section near the bottom of the article. The flying section of the article, written by Paul Dye, raised some serious concerns especially regarding control and stability.

    Shock cooling

My understanding is that the big issue with partial-power descents with two strokes is that the carbs have the leanest mixture at mid-throttle and are richest at idle and full throttle. I think that this is especially an issue when using pre-mix fuel (ie: lubricating oil mixed with the fuel)...

    Ultralight liability insurance?

Any chance that the Popular Rotorcraft Association (PRA) has a line on insurance for gyros? Seems like it would be relevant for their members. I briefly checked their website, but I'm not a member so I couldn't fully explore. Claude

Lost Logs and Phase I Sign-off

It's just the logs that are lost. The aircraft is fully registered, has an N#, airworthiness certificate and operating limitations. Thanks. Claude

Lost Logs and Phase I Sign-off

I have to leave for a few hours, but I'll take a look in my paperwork later tonight and get back with you. Thanks for the offer of help. :)

Lost Logs and Phase I Sign-off

Thanks, Marc. I do have the EAA Flight Test material (manual and flip book), so I appreciate the value of spending the time to go through the flight test process; I want to be safe! I also have an appointment to talk with my local FSDO ASI next week about adding this new-to-me airplane to my...

Lost Logs and Phase I Sign-off

Yes, it does. Part 6 of the OL's states: "6. Flight testing required for phase I operations or as a result of a major change will be conducted in the assigned test area. Flight operations will be conducted under VFR day only conditions with the pilot as the sole occupant of the aircraft. This...

Lost Logs and Phase I Sign-off

Hello. I recently purchased an ELSA Challenger II. It's a nice plane, but the previous owner (the one that I bought it from) was unable to obtain the logs (airframe and engine) from the previous-to-him owners. He tried to contact the previous owners to hunt down the logs, but without success...

    Ultralight liability insurance?

    Yes, that is odd. :(

    Ultralight liability insurance?

Good to know. Also, I saw that the background picture on the O2/USUA web site page shows a gyro. Hopefully that's a good sign for your needs. :) Claude

    Ultralight liability insurance?

I think that you'll find that the USUA web site is (long) out of date and O2 is the current associated company. In any case, I'll be interested to learn what you find out. Good luck. :) Claude

    Ultralight liability insurance?

I have USUA insurance for my Hornet airplane (LSA). You have to be a member of USUA to get it, but the insurance is brokered through O2 Sports Insurance (USUA Insurance – O2 Sports Insurance). The rate sheet that I have is a couple of years old, but it basically went like this: Class 2...

LODA Requirement Removed for Experimental Aircraft

Hi, all. So, now that the bill has been signed, when is the LODA requirement for receiving training in an experimental airplane/aircraft that you own actually removed? When is (at least this part of the bill) effective? I've done some searching on the EAA and AOPA web sites but have not found a...

    Weighing with electronic bathroom scales?

I bought a shipping scale off of Amazon and then was able to take it to my local county weights and measures office where the gentleman whom tests the accuracy of business scales was nice enough to check the calibration of my scale with different weights. We found that the error was between 1 to...

Makes sense. Thanks for the clarification.

    Propping to Avoid Engine Overspeed

Even 4000 sounds low to me for a 532. I don't know the specs for the 532, but I would have thought it would be up closer to 6k (isn't that close to what a 582 would be?). Good luck. :)
