Is it a bird? Is it a Plane? Is it a Helicopter? Nope - I'm building one of those new drone thingy's!

I'd love to have a personal flying vehicle as much as you do but there's a reason why the Jetson one and opener blackfly are only meant to be as fun recreational vehicles sorta like jetskis or ATVs, and even that is not possible at the moment. The toughest hurdle is safety, there's a reason why...

Is it a bird? Is it a Plane? Is it a Helicopter? Nope - I'm building one of those new drone thingy's!

Except those brothers were the real trailblazers doing some real innovations. These eVTOLs are just supersized quadcopter drones we've had for decades being hyped up as flying cars to take billions from dumb tech bros and investors. We have flying cars they're called helicopters.

Is it a bird? Is it a Plane? Is it a Helicopter? Nope - I'm building one of those new drone thingy's!

ugh another one of the oversized drone quadcopter eVTOL, these things are a deathtrap and noisy as hell. can't wait for the air taxi flying car fad to die so we can start getting some real innovations.

The concept of flapping flight will eventually succeed!

While I agree with your assessment of robotic horses as an example of mimicking nature not always being the best way or working out, I wouldn't go as far as to paint flapping wings with the same brush. Although at face value it seems to make total sense logically leading some to suggest that if...

The concept of flapping flight will eventually succeed!

flapping wings..."is a concept about which we know frighteningly little" ---Dr. Strange the literature describing the mechanisms of lift and thrust production over the last 50 years is ...scant to say the least... most only pertaining to insects but almost nothing about larger birds.. it's not...

The concept of flapping flight will eventually succeed!

This. it wont matter what state of the art or futuristic motor/engine/actuator, power source, materials etc. you invent but without the knowledge and understanding of the mechanisms responsible for lift and thrust generation then flapping flight will not succeed.

The concept of a flying car will eventually succeed

AFAIK the technology that is able to fully duplicate the flapping wing propulsion of birds doesn't exist, maybe in the distant future sure, although some university and military labs have gotten somewhat close(yet still a long ways away) with their MAVs based on certain insects so not exactly...

The concept of a flying car will eventually succeed

^^ I like this perspective and would like to add: ''Those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it. '' --Winston Churchill, 1948 "Heavier than air flying machines are impossible" --Lord Kelvin, 1895 ''If the entirety of civilization thought this way we'd still be driving across...

The concept of a flying car will eventually succeed

Never said or ever implied I have a better mousetrap, just my solutions/proposals to particular problems/challneges, just as other members like Jedi, henryk, DennisK have their own also. But if that's how you want to interpret it then fine that's your problem, go take it up with the internet...

The concept of a flying car will eventually succeed

Funny I don't recall ever using any of those words, maybe you've been duped by some of those so called startups one too many times? But don't worry I'm not here to sell you anything, ask you for money/attention or to join my cult. I'm just somebody who dreams of being able to fly/soar like the...

The concept of a flying car will eventually succeed

Yea working on it, I'll probably just post a general overview of the flying vehicle, the basic specs, features, how it flies, costs, etc. but won't get into the technical details about the actual inner workings of the propulsion system for... reasons.

The concept of a flying car will eventually succeed

So we should all just stop discussing then? We don't need to consider new ideas or solutions then? There's nothing more to figure out or solve anymore? or that no one can come up with new ideas or innovations? Well what a revelation. The problem with most big companies, universities and...

The concept of a flying car will eventually succeed

I meant to say we already have all the technology to make it work so it wont be so costly as you say. And what I'm proposing you won't even need such a system, it wouldn't be controlling anything.

The concept of a flying car will eventually succeed

And now we have to do it for flying cars which is a whole different beast and that's why they are challenges. Fortunately the existing systems are all already in place so only a few tweaks here and there will be needed. What I'll be proposing won't be costly because it wouldn't even have to...

The concept of a flying car will eventually succeed

For the concept of a flying car to be successful I feel they're all equally important concerns that need to be not only addressed but solved. Be it safety, noise, air traffic management, licensing, regulations, cost, infrastructure, weather, public acceptance, etc. For example if you solved many...

The concept of a flying car will eventually succeed

I haven't had the chance to even begin to get into the specific details of the technology and vehicle yet(which Jedi have requested) because people here have already dismissed the idea entirely so i felt the need to address the safety concerns first in order to convince some of you that the...

The concept of a flying car will eventually succeed

I completely agree about VTOL in cities(for many reasons that I've noted) and you're absolutely right to think this of just about any flying vehicle, the FAA certainly do (at least for ultralights anyway). However I know there is one particular type of flying vehicle tech that is IMO not as...
