Can the gearbox on the Rotax 912 be rotated 180 degrees?

    Prop extensions

Didn’t know everyone had gone through this. If so…. Could you point me to the thread?

    Prop extensions

I have seen pics of some fairly long prop extensions on some of the small aircraft racers at Reno. I’m assuming this is for streamlining purposes and I know those engines run at pretty high rpm’s. When the prop extension gets too long you get into problems with harmonics, which has been...

Advice, please. Considering a Sonerai II.

I think that’s a wise discovery. I think that flying it solo, the SONERAI 2 is a nice, fun airplane.

    Flying wires

Skybolt, Marquart Charger, Fisher Celebrity, Acro Sport, Skyote, Hatz, Miniplane, Stolp. All of these biplanes I believe have fabric covered wings with flying wires that connect to both the main spars and also the rear spar. So how did Curtis Pitts design his wings such that he only used wires...

    Mixing different epoxies

Aircraft Spruce is now out of EZ Poxy so my project is at a standstill. They say that December is the earliest they can get some. I was thinking of using a different brand ( West systems ) but don’t know if using different brands is recommended and are these 2 brands compatible. Or maybe...

    D Motor Experience

Yeah….you’re right. And this engine has been in development for over 10 years. I saw it run on a test stand at Sun n fun a few years ago. I was really impressed with it. And I know several experimental aircraft manufacturers advertised that they had plans to offer it as an option for their...

    Boat fiberglass on aircraft?

For non- structural components ( wheelpants, cowlings, fairings, etc) is it OK to use polyester? And also to use chopped mat for this? I would think polyester is what’s used at Vans…. But I’m not sure about the mat cloth.

    D Motor Experience

There was an aircraft in the ultralight area at Oshkosh 22 that had a six cylinder D motor in it. A guy there said he was the new distributor for the engines in North America. When he confirmed the high cost of the engines I didn’t have the desire to get any more info. from him. There have...

    Lack of twin engine E/ABs

I had this idea for a simple twin. Arion Lightning with a “fancy” engine mount. Maybe with a V tail. But I needed the D Motor engines, but when they about doubled the price of their engines …put the kibosh on that. Would require almost no airframe modifications. Think of a modern Dornier.

    Kanardia

Anyone have any experience with Kanardia EFIS systems. I’m pretty much narrowed down to a GRT setup but I’m impressed with the Kanardia displays, engine monitor and ”supposedly” easier installation.

    Prop shaft

Thanks for all of the info. I didn’t reply sooner because the discussions quickly went over my head. I could in no way do the suggested math required and could only resort to trial and error which some posters suggested against. Also, although I could handle a little extra weight, the...

    Prop shaft

I’m working on a design that would need a long prop shaft ( Aircobra/ BD 5). Having trouble accessing any info on how these are designed. The shaft would be approx. 5 feet and the HP is 100. Any help would be appreciated.

    Long EZ dimensions

I’m looking for a couple of Long EZ dimensions. Any help would be appreciated. I need the waterline of the engine thrust line and the fuselage station of the prop hub. (Aft face of the prop extension.

    Spar cap material

Thanks Billski. I have read many of your posts and consider them helpful. Not sure where the “What makes you think that the center section spar is any more critical.....” comment came from. If we weren’t so driven to make the safest, strongest and “per plans” structure possible, we wouldn’t...

    Spar cap material

My son is building a Long EZE and is having a problem acquiring some UNI spar cap material. As a former composite builder I have been giving advice when asked. He’s working on the problem from Florida and me from Louisiana. He has finished the wings and ready for center section and canard...
