3D printing in the Homebuilt world.

Just a heads up that Hartzell is offering 3D print models as proxies for work on cowling fitting and spinner cutouts. Really good idea to simplify the work There is a post over at Vans Airforce https://vansairforce.net/threads/hartzell-hub-and-blade-proxies.224970/ And direkt link to the...

Parts Wanted Tinnerman Nutplates, #8, Countersunk, One Leg

Technically nothing but then you would have to deal with two different screw types for unmounting one panel which i'm trying to avoid. But that was plan b.

Parts Wanted Tinnerman Nutplates, #8, Countersunk, One Leg

Thanks for checking. I've done more searching and found a couple of alternative part numbers. There's also a certified Cessna part that is much easier to find.

Parts Wanted Tinnerman Nutplates, #8, Countersunk, One Leg

Looked at the posts but didn't see what you mean. Just to be clear, the screw hole is so close to the edge that i can only use a single legged nutplate. A double legged one would stand over.

Parts Wanted Tinnerman Nutplates, #8, Countersunk, One Leg

A6195 is the two legged ones. A6196 is single leg, much harder to find, but yeah i've been emailing them. looks like they got some. Thank you.

Parts Wanted Tinnerman Nutplates, #8, Countersunk, One Leg

Mit kit uses the Tinnerman nutplates at some internal covers and one part came with drill holes placed too close to the edge, i believe by mistake. Pass drilled them without thinking and now the two legged plates don't fit. Before i use alternatives and have two different screw types for one...

Crashes in the News - Thread

Second accident in a year, people have been calling the FAA on them suggesting they are an amateur operation lacking oversight. I can't tell how legit they are and if their work is properly monitored, just see the drama going on.

    Interesting talk about homebuild submarines

It's in german but you can use auto translated captions. I like their engineering. And their expections are pretty modest (going down 11 meters only). Spirit of building for fun and show that you can, not to make big bucks like that other one.

Would You Go to A&P school at 65 ?

You would take the spot away from some kid that really wants to make it a career. I would try to find another practical way to gain that knowledge.

Crossing the Atlantic Ocean with a homebuilt jet or an electric aeroplane.

It's not that much longer really. JFK to London direct is 3000 NM vs. 3300NM if you stop Greenland and Iceland. A mere 10% extra.

Crossing the Atlantic Ocean with a homebuilt jet or an electric aeroplane.

How about the Sunseeker Duo experimental? In the summer from east to west to make the days longer? Reykjavík has 21 hours of sunlight in the summer. https://www.solar-flight.com/sunseeker-duo/

Crossing the Atlantic Ocean with a homebuilt jet or an electric aeroplane.

Stratos 716X is a kit plane jet, though not a home build. The company requires you to do the factory assist program Empty weight under 3000kg, pilot only range 1604 miles, should be plenty for crossing the pond. All yours for a couple of million...

    Horrible news from Vans Aircraft

This is one of the early threads about the dimple problem with laser cut parts. Interesting observation when the builder got a replacement part and it has the same discoloration and developed the same crack and the very same position. https://vansairforce.net/community/showthread.php?t=209650...

    Horrible news from Vans Aircraft

Don't think there was ever any ill will. Think this outcome is somewhere in the middle of the spectrum of expectations. If there was a small financing hole and all else was fine they would have found someone in no time. This is also not the worst case that assets had to be sold and the company...
