Let me know when they pass the automotive safety requirements, especially those for pedestrian safety 😂

    Building a VW Aero-Engine

Pops, great videos! Have you thought about using a Type IV as the base engine for the conversion? It seems that all the complex mods for bigger jugs and crank and oil system are standard on Type IV cases. You could also go much bigger with Type IV cases, a 2.2L it's pretty easy. Keep on doing!

440CC Honda clone , anyone using any of the big singles for Ultra light?

I've been playing around with the industrial engine idea a lot. The engine can be modified, you can add cooling and can produce more power than spec. Longevity will be shorter, no doubt here. The biggest issue is the very thin crankshaft that's in the 1.25" range max. Driving the prop from the...

    Preparing to build a TBD

I'm kind of in that boat (plane). I have airports in 10 minutes cycling distance of home and work and it's just a 20 minutes flight. By car it takes me 90 minutes due to traffic and detour around the bay. As for building, I would rebuild a VW engine blind folded and am comfortable with wood and...

    Preparing to build a TBD

I'm sure cheap flying is possible. But the fun is the build process. I'm not looking for a deal on a project. I'm going to build my own plane.

    Preparing to build a TBD

Thanks for all the good leads. I insist on building my own plane. If I buy a plane, it will be a Cessna 150/152 or similar. I can't see myself paying the same amount of money for an experimental that only the builder knows well enough to inspect and maintain.

    Preparing to build a TBD

Thank you all for the replies. Many good points made. I understand the problematic practicality. It doesn't have to be the perfect commuting solution, but a fun commuting solution. I want to build, not to buy. I'm also afraid to trust someone's else build. The plane will be N-registered, with...

    Preparing to build a TBD

I know I need ADS-B. I'm within 30 miles of SFO. All airspace here is controlled. I'm only looking to build something myself. I find it hard to trust my life in the hands of another builder and I also want to be the certified mechanic for the plane.

    Preparing to build a TBD

Dana, yes I want to build it. I know I could buy a used 150 but where's the fun in that? I have a class D airport within 10 min cycling distance from both home and office. (Class C is there as an option) I only plan to fly when weather permits, daylight VFR. I can drive any other day, or even...

    Preparing to build a TBD

Hello, I'm happy to join this forum. I'm looking at starting a build of a single sitter that I hope to use for commuting 30 miles daily, weather permitted. I'm pretty good with mechanics (restored and rebuilt cars, engines, bicycles, appliances), electronics (my other job) and some carpentry...

AMS grades for a two stroke!!!

Simplest solution in my opinion is to melt an old engine. If you don't know how to choose materials, just use what others have chosen.
