    Ducted fan aircraft

The top Sports Class guys that are hitting 400 MPH are reportedly kicking out around 800 HP.

Blended wing ACs are coming !

That aircraft is begging for a canard to control pitch.

    Anti-ice for experimental.

I've heard the suggestion to just rub liquid silicone onto the entire airframe. Of course.... you'd never be able to repaint it...

Is it a question of proportions? Water hull shape and water handling?

Most of the windsurfers in the Columbia River Gorge are on foils now. They say that it feels almost frictionless compared to a foilless board.

    Simple design for pressurized Sailplane

World paraglider champion Ewa Wisnierska was sucked into a thunderhead in a competition up to 32,654'. She was unconscious for an hour before the thunderhead turned her loose. She woke up and landed unscathed.

Crashes in the News - Thread

In 37 years of flying I've had 6 (six) forced landings (two while flying other people's airplanes) with no wrecks. And that's why I don't fly at night. Well.... unless I'm running late getting to my destination. That has happened more times than it should have.

Why battery-powered aircraft will never have significant range

That's what paint is for. there's near 50 year old Varieze's still ripping around as structurally sound as they were when new. Not to mention 71 year old plastic fantastic Corvettes. And then there's the Boeng 787 Dreamliner, but it's only 80% plastic.

Why battery-powered aircraft will never have significant range

Burt said that the cooling drag on a Long EZ is 1/3rd of the total airframe drag. That was with the plans P51 scoop. Most builders install a NACA scoop instead. Never heard about the math on that mod, but people who have done that change report a 5 MPH increase in top speed.

Basic Configuration for a "Safe" airplane

In the late 70's, Sometimes I'd drive to Dog Mountain near Morton, WA to fly my hang glider and I'd see Steve Grossruck flying his Kasperwing as a pure hang glider. It seemed to perform about equally to the Rogallos of that era. Then he went over to the dark side and put a motor on it.

    Piano Hinge Pin Retention

On EZ canopies I cut the two (S/S) piano hinge pins long. Then I bend one end into a 1" loop with the last 1/4" at 90 degrees which plugs into a hole in the longeron. A small sigh says, "EMERGENCY pull pins to open canopy!" Sitting in the hanger, I can remove the canopy in about 15 seconds.

    Prop extensions

I have a 12" prop extension for a Prescott Pusher (if you remember those, you're old.) I've never tried it out, but I might.... some day.

    Prop extensions

The most successful Formula one Reno racer ever, John Sharps Nemesis had a 16" prop extension. The called it "the drive shaft". I've run 8" prop extensions on my EZ's for well over 2,000 hours, no problems.

    Lycoming o290D

I have a 290 in my hanger I'd sell. Can't remember if it's a D or D2. I also have one in my Long EZ, but not for sale. I had a 320 Varieze at one time. It really scooted.

    Pushers...way to go ?

Yeah, but tractor installations fly with crappy air over the entire fuselage caused by that prop out front. A few years ago, Klaus Savier won the Bronze Sports Class at Reno with his (normally aspirated, parallel valve) 360 Long EZ. Second place was a 540 supercharged F1 Rocket.

If they'd done that a few miles south in Mexico they wouldn't be having this problem.

    New Build Russia AC-4KC

I've shared thermals with fiberglass gliders and usually outclimbed them in my hang glider because of the turning radius and being able to stay in or near the core.
