    Engine debate and choices?

Sequential injection vs batch is usually only an advantage below 2000 RPM. Above that even tbi injection has an advantage of latent heat of vaporization and cools the intake charge and atomizes fuel before it enters the cylinder if the intake manifold and port is properly designed for it. Even...

    Engine debate and choices?

No need to ask them about MMOI. I already did. This was their response.

    Engine debate and choices?

My comment on that was more that they choose to use the moderator function to silence any viewpoint that may not be to their liking. Sad really.

    Engine debate and choices?

I was a member of the FB group "Engines for experimental kit aircraft" apparently that is just another advertising page for Viking engines though. Jan recently posted a video of pulling the spark plugs from a 1.2 gm turbo engine touting how new they look. I commented that "as an automotive shop...

    GM LE2 engine conversion

I messed around and bought the LH7 diesel 1.6 but it was too heavy for my plans so I weighed everything, documented measurements and sold it. They did change the calibration on the engines to keep them alive but with already failing pistons in the 1.4 and the 1.5 they did a redesign. No the dish...

    GM LE2 engine conversion

Jazz30-06, the earlier design pistons actually had quite a bit of issues breaking the ring lands. They were trying to make peak torque at 1500 rpm and suffered from low speed pre-ignition issues (direct injection+low quality oil). Lots of broken pistons before they put a new tune in them and...

    GM LE2 engine conversion

This project is still alive and back active thanks to not being allowed to do my regular job after yet another back surgery (#6 so far). I found a starter for another application that works for my engine and also shed 3# off. I got some updated pistons with a nickel alloy top ring land cast into...

    3.0 L 305 hp inline 6 DIESEL?

I own a truck with this engine and I'm amazed how smooth quiet and efficient it is. I've averaged 39.8mpg for a 50 mile loop and over 30 for the 400 mile loop. Amazing for a full size 4 door pickup. I'm not sure what all that engine weight included but I'm sure we could shed a lot of weight off...

    Greetings from Ohio

I guess I forgot that the RV crowd are assemblers of factory aircraft but still get the perks of labeling them "experimental". Or do the instructions tell the builders to flame anyone who speaks of deviating from the holy design? Let's not derail the OP's welcome thread with this though. My...

    Greetings from Ohio

I think I like the flexibility of it. The community is way more supportive of "alternative" powerplants than the RV and Kitfox crowd. You mention a non "aircraft" engine on the RV boards and you better have your flame suit on. The KR crowd seem to be open minded to changes in all aspects of the...

    Greetings from Ohio

I am set on the KR2S design but also waiting for the Freebird version of the plans to become available to go over along with my KR2S plans I have. I'll decide what changes I want to make from there.

    Greetings from Ohio

Welcome. Looks like you are not far from me in both distance and stage of project. You are close to the Hummel factory, have you paid them a visit yet?

    Direct drive options Chevy

I have a bellhousing, flywheel and spring damper from a Volvo Penta IO system (small block Chevy 350) that is setup with a shaft and bearings. I've often looked at it for another project but if anyone could use s it, I'd part with it. It would bolt to a small block chevy and possibly an LS V8 on...

    "Bubba" PSRU

If you or anyone else is playing with these, I have 3 sets of PEM gears is part with cheap. 65050(2 sets) and one set of 65029. $50 a set. Brand new.

    "Bubba" PSRU

I used them in the one I am still working on. I used the 9310 gears available from Jegs under the G-force name. They are machined at the same place as the DMI "friction fighters" They are lightened and rem polished. I have the shafts I just haven't had time to set them up and spline them on the...

Less than $1K TIG welder recommendations

I replaced a Hobart Tigwave250 with the Primeweld. The Hobart had a high frequency board failure and the parts are no longer available. The old machines are nice but if they fail a lot of the parts are obsolete. This all happened after I just spent $200 on a new foot pedal a year ago.

Less than $1K TIG welder recommendations

Well, I guess I lied. I was planning on the Eastwood combo but after reading ore reviews and thinking on it I ended up ordering the Primeweld 225X AC/DC tig and 60A plasma cutter. So far so good, great smooth arc, great control, nice to have pulse. I actually wanted something with knobs for most...

Sanity Check / Reference Request: Engine Induction Intake Sizing

At what depression (pressure differential) are you making your calculations for cfm per flow area? I flow everything on my bench at 28" WC. This is kind of industry standard for porting and comparing heads. 146cfm/in2 is the goal there.
