    Simulators

For some of us it is the only way that we will ever be able to fly as a pilot. Its a distant second no matter how good the simulation, but if its all you have may as well make peace with it.

I'm truly sorry to hear of this. My thoughts are with you in this most difficult time.

Leonard Millholland is about ready to release Briggs conversion plans

I agree. I'll never be able to build or fly an airplane of any kind myself, but will probably pick up a set of these plans just to support Leonard. Man deserves it!

I'm no help with a kit, but welcome aboard.

It's a pretty airplane, for whatever that's worth coming from someone who knows little about aircraft design. I've been following your project with great interest.

    Douglas Bearcat engine

The success of the model A in airplanes seems to be due to the long front bearing and making torque at low rpm. Maybe instead of converting car engines we should be looking at tractor engines.

    Hi I'm Lee Waddell

I bet! I was pretty young when that cooked off, but I remember dad and grandpa talking about it. Pretty crazy time.

    Douglas Bearcat engine

That's the one I was thinking of. I have often wondered if it was mis-captioned as well. I've always had a thing for these older engines. Some really cool ideas out there back then!

    Douglas Bearcat engine

Me too. I haven't been able to find much though. I think there was a Gere Sport powered by one as well.

    Hi I'm Lee Waddell

I'll bet that was an experience. Any pictures from the flight?

    Curtiss-Stinson Special

I got lucky and found some table saw tops to make my workbench. Paid $10 apiece for them. Bit overkill for a build table though!

    This is sad news.

    How does it fly?

I don't have the rudder pedals in it or a proper seat either. But I did mock up the seat and liked the fit. I was kinda surprised too.

    How does it fly?

I welded up a fuselage, mostly just for fun and welding practice. I think it's pretty roomy, I'm 6'4" but kinda skinny.

Thanks! If you need me I'll be in my garage learning just enough to be dangerous!

Does anybody have a link to naca report 306? I want to take a look at it, and have searched the naca server with no luck. I guess I fail at the internet.

    SnS -:- 21 | Q&A

First let me say I'm really new to this airplane building thing. However, drawing on my background with modifying cars, if you change one thing you need to change another 10 or more it seems like. Are you prepared to deal with that? I'm not trying to be discouraging at all. But I'm not really...

    Tail Questions

This is starting to make sense now. I can see that there's much more to it than just taking off or adding a foot to the tail to compensate. It makes sense that the engine mount would be the easier option.

    Tail Questions

By too close you mean the engine mount length?
