    UL 103 engine?

I am in love and 77. Aint she beautifull? Swan-120 UL 103 She is powered by dreams and means of old man and a Polini Thor 8500 rpm two stroke 36 horsepower at 40 rps to a two-bladed prop of 1500mm diameter. Two counterrotating 1140mm props 700 mm apart will have same efficiency . A Junkers...

Ideal 40 hp/3000 rpm Direct drive inverted Two-stroke single cylinder engine?

On another thread it is discussed if a half VW is the ideal 40 hp direct drive fourstroke, and I think it is. Very close to at any rate and unbeatable in price A single cylinder two stroke that makes 40hp/3000 rpm will be just as unpleasant torque variation wise and lower mass,so let us dream ...

Inverted inline two cylinder direct drive fourstroke 40hp/3000rpm ideal engine.

Opposed cylinder engines would make less noise if they rotated at lower rpm and more power if they ran higher mean piston speed for same thermal stress levels. The mean piston speed of ungeared VW,Lyc,Con is around 8-9 m/sec and geared Rotax has good reliability at 12m/sec. VW,Lyc,Con etc...

    Vibration free powerplant.

A Hummel size plane will perfprm well with a 1360mm prop driven by 30kW. It will perform just as well with two 1012mm props placed 700 mm apart ,counterrotating and each absorbing 15 kW. Swept areas are the same and that is somehow important

    Future utility piston engine aircraft?

This thread came from reading about the new Sonex and finding it so last century. Piston engines for aircrafts can be directcoupled or reducted drive. They have about the same mass to prop power ratio. The basic units for ultimate power mass ratio is piston area, mean active pressure,maximum...

    Two cylinder gear-less twin aircraft

Electric propulsion of cars have made electric motors and generators very light, efficient and reliable in no time. Batteries have not improved orders of magnitude since WW1 submarines. Let try if a single prop/electric motor driven by two single cylinder enginerators can be as reliable / low...

    Side-valved Two strokes for angels.

Two stroke engines without valves are dying fast. Two strokes with exhaust valves sell very well for ships. It is great fun for an old man to see if exhaust-valved two strokes can be useful in aircrafts. I made a PPL forty years ago and cancelled it when money went low 36 years ago. It was...

    Hello from Denmark

I am an 74 year old male and former PPL holder, that dream of better aircraft engines. Lower mass, less fuel and very low vibrations. No ,it is not a fuel cell but a side-valved gasoline two-stroke.
