    Interesting Electric Pipistrel

I knew that the stations are huge. Thanks for the info.

    Interesting Electric Pipistrel

I know we are well off topic here, but what kind of range would you think is useful? I am unfamiliar with how these are used and assumed that they would be used a lot for patrolling the station. I did quick calculations against the Hornet using the specs agreed in the other thread to get time...

Sorry again for my earlier reply. Do you see that something like this with a 30 to 60 minute flight duration as being useful? Thanks

    Ranger electrically powered?!?

That is why I an struggling to get reliable data to work from. I believe that we are on the cusp of technology that would enable experimenters to begin work. One of the reasons I like the LG technology is the ease of use for builders as well as safety.

    Interesting Electric Pipistrel

You are probably correct on the Zenith copy now that I looked at the specs, however the wing clearly resembles one. As far as the ecological impacts, that is debatable. As for the low power density, I stand by statement that the mission capability could meet some people's requirement while...

    Ranger electrically powered?!?

I have not been able to determine from the info provided exactly how the modules are packaged in the 62Kw pack. The modules pictured are the 40Kw ones, but looking at the cutaway of the battery assembly they look different. you may well be correct and I am still seeking info. Reliable info is...

    Interesting Electric Pipistrel

The hornet is obviously a direct copy of a Zenith CH701. My calculations of using this airframe for electric power is favorable. Thanks for the vids Cheers, Gene

    Ranger electrically powered?!?

To interconnect 10 leaf cells you would need 27 inches of buss bar I used aluminum for a weight of .24 pounds To connect to controller and motor I used 19 feet of 6awg copper which weighs .8 pounds A suitable mounting made of 8 feet 1/16 6064 aluminum would weigh .5 pounds adding in total 1.64...

    Interesting Electric Pipistrel

I could envision cattle ranchers in the outback using these instead of helecopters. Provide an adequate solar charging station and save a bunch. Also may be useful for people to commute to work up to about 70 miles providing there is a way to recharge.

    Ranger electrically powered?!?

I totally agree with the Pipestrel thought. Lets see: 18.5 Kw for 5 min - 1.5 Kw 13.5 Kw for 30 min = 6.75 Kw 13.5 Kw for 15 min reserve = 3.4 Kw 11.65 Kw / 50 = 233 Kw/Kg Meets the battery specs and may interest an experimenter. That is my thought. And yes, I do calculate using real world...

    Ranger electrically powered?!?

SD-1 Also uses 24HP Briggs engine. Briggs weight approx 70 pounds + FWF (Allowed engines up to 93 pounds). 9 gallons fuel = 54 Pounds for total of 124 pounds + FWF Versus 100 pounds batteries + 8 Pounds for 15KW motor + 2 pounds for controller = 110 pounds total plus FWF. Thrust would be 150...

If you look at the chinese description of the cell from the manufacture it gives the watt hour density.

    Ranger electrically powered?!?

If you look at the pack construction you will notice that the cells are bundled into modules. These are then assembled into the actual battery pack. This bundling into modules is attractive because it provides a protective case as well as easy assembly into the pack you require as well as cell...
