FAA Advises Using Analog NAVAIDS In Spoofing Areas

Hence my prior sentence where I say within its limitations inertial guidance is great. I simply appear to have a higher regard for corrective inputs than you and am not expecting the equivalent (I'm being hyperbolic here) of an IFR approach with a compass ball.

FAA Advises Using Analog NAVAIDS In Spoofing Areas

In aviation it's typically referred to as "inertial guidance". It has some flaws but is great within its limitations. Sadly, it's not used in GA very much but common low cost electronics can do it easily.

    Ducted fan aircraft

Lots of factors. A little as a month. more water or humidity = faster. Boats see the fastest failures. Definitely something to consider during pre-flight. Tug on / look for discoloration / flaking / etc. Decent article below...

    Ducted fan aircraft

Looks good! I cannot tell if you have a fiberglass ply in there. Carbon Fiber directly on Aluminum will eventually lead to galvanic corrosion and part failure. Yes, this happens even with the resin or epoxy. Most correct or at least delay this with a ply of fiberglass in between the AL and CF...

Why is GA continuing its demise?

I didn't read the entire thread so these may have already been covered. 1. Decoupling of wages and costs via unbacked currencies. 2. No panacea solutions have worked (new technology/software will save us!). It all costs more in the end. 3. Safety theater. "Safety 1st" kills all industries and...

    Barnstormers sellers non-responsive?

I appreciate all the feedback, stories, and continued discussion. It seems there was difficulty between our phones initially (and voicemail) but the seller responded to the email I sent him. After some back and forth I sent a deposit and just recently picked up a partially built Sonex A model...

    Ducted fan aircraft

If I have followed the last few pages well enough here is my input: Deformation of large 3D printed parts is very difficult to overcome. Thermal stability requires ABS or better type plastics and the large size would likely require a large format printer with heated chamber. Even the carbon tow...

    Barnstormers sellers non-responsive?

Thank you! This particular ad is very short but does have 1 picture. I will try the message feature and see if he is more responsive there.

    Barnstormers sellers non-responsive?

Does anyone have experience with how listing/selling on Barnstormers works? Does it cost money to list? I have been attempting to pick up plane or project and noticed some of the alleged sellers are non-responsive. One even relisted their kit but never returned my call from the first listing.

Briggs & Stratton Vanguard 23hp build

No point in reinventing the flywheel. Cart and Lawnmower racing likely has you covered. A quick search shows SFI rated flywheels available in various trims. Including with magnets. e.g. Billet Flywheel for Briggs Model 30, 35, 38 16-23hp Vanguard V-Twin If nothing else it's a place to start...

FAA: Wrestling with Appropriate Pilot Rating for EVTOLs

We're only at level 3 in cars. Sadly most don't understand what that even means or even care. From the pilots view it's easier. From the designers it's so much more complicated. It's so complicated that the FAA and other governing bodies are having to relax safety standards to even allow it...

"Complete Walkaround" - Interesting Youtuber with short videos on different Aircraft and their Costs

I've been watching his videos for a bit now and thought those not in the know may enjoy them too. They tend to be pretty short. Perhaps too short for those with great knowledge of many different aircraft. A pretty picture or two, some talking, and a few charts is about it. But for people...

    10 lbs

10th Amendment. Freedom of Movement. Again, too much capitulation, hand wringing, and "Safety First". There is also now a body of precedence, however illegally gained, against fundamental freedoms because of it too. Same thing happened with "Driver's Licenses" and illegal expansion of Interstate...

    10 lbs

If the hobby cannot withstand "bad actors" that are in the incredible minority then it's already doomed. GA is still mostly dead and getting worse. Pretending that taking the same tack with models will lead to different results seems odd. "Dangerous" freedom or a dead/destroyed hobby. "safety...

Discussion: Echo (Ultralight Self-Launching Sailplane) design

Can't fully tell but at a glance your outboard ~1/3rd or 1/4 wing looks to have too small a chord. At the US ultralight stall speeds dropping below ~500,000 Re with relatively high Cl airfoils needed to do it with ~110 sq ft area doesn't work out.

Experimental (ELSA / E-AB) No Longer Allowed for Flight Training??

Black's Law Dictionary, 10th ed. Compensate, Verb 1. To Pay 2. To make an amendatory payment to; to recompense. I cannot help but wonder if this was written with such a large and glaring hole in the hopes that someone would sue and they would immediately have to back down. Either that or it...

    My 13B engine configuration (tentative)

If I had my all my RX7 parts with me I would use my pictures but sadly I don't. Here is a picture of a stock FC S5 turbo manifold. Notice the divider after the central combined volume. This along with the two-paths that exhaust is encourage to flow along make it a twin-scroll (two path) exducer...

    My 13B engine configuration (tentative)

I retract my racers using inco statement. I cannot find the threads I was recalling when writing that post. I am quite surprised that your SS manifolds are lasting multiple seasons.

    My 13B engine configuration (tentative)

Where did I specify the exhaust port? Look at the exhaust manifolds. Both the BT and REW have a central combined volume which is then split prior to the turbo. Good for that team managing to using a material not rated for those exhaust temperatures to survive them. It happens. It doesn't for...
