    Leaking exhaust joint!

Its a Rotax 503, and the exhaust is very visible coming out of the coupling. I'm looking a making a collar on the engine side of the coupling to contain the spray.

    Leaking exhaust joint!

Engine is mounted inverted and has been run 2 times for a total of 20 minutes. The oily exhaust ran down the side of the case and into the shroud round the head. some silver tape stopped that, but the prop wash blows the oily leak over the firewall and underside of the plane. Rvidently one...

    Leaking exhaust joint!

Need some suggestions. The first flexible joint out from the exhaust manifold does not seal properly, resulting in oil spray on the side of the engine, firewall and under side of the fuse. Makes a mess! Thanks, Johnc

    Safety Wire on Ultra-Prop

Hi Pops, you are up early. Ultra-prop hubs has slots, "8mm or 5/16" wide". Ivorptop says not safety wire, not loctite, no Ny-loc or castle nuts. Nothing to prevent re-torquing, regularly. Still working on my weight/bal problem!

    Safety Wire on Ultra-Prop

The Rotax 503 prop hub has 6 threaded holes for 5/16" prop bolts. Should locking nuts be used behind the hub , or should castle nuts be used with holes on the bolts for safety wire? Thanks

    Orientation of ROTAX Fuel Pump

Wanttobuild, Installing on a 503UL. I did see some oil in the pulse line, confirming a comment from Dana. Don't know if oil in the line is a problem or not, but a few drops are visible at the low point in the line (can't see in this pic). I had the pump higher up on the firewall level with...

    Orientation of ROTAX Fuel Pump

Just mounted the ROTAX diaphram fuel pump in the horizontal position with the impulse line out the bottom. While watching an EAA video, a review of an installation pointed out that the fuel pump was improperly mounted, in the vertical position. I also have been told that the impulse line must...

    ROTAX 503ul DUCATI

Kevin, thanks for the info. I did find out that the engine was built in 1992. 17 years ago!! wow!! Looking at the engine, it looks like a normal new engine, but who knows what lurks inside. question for you though. The rubber caps on the plug wire connections to the coils have split...

    Alternate Rectifier/Regulator for a Rotax 503 DUCATI

The ROTAX user manual and installation manual don't say much about the chatacteristics of the output voltage for instr's, battery charging, lights other then that it is an a/c voltage that increases with RPM. Does anyone know what the a/c voltage out of the generator is thru the operating RPM...

Primer vs Choke - ROTAX 503, dual Carb.

For operation in the sunny south, Is a choke really needed, or is a primer to both carbs sufficient? Is it possible to siphon fuel from one carb to the other thru the primer tubing? Will balancing the carbs prevent this from happening? Are check valves available to insert in the 1/8" tubing...

    ROTAX 503ul DUCATI

Can some one tell me how to tell the year of Manufacture from the serial NO. on the engine. I have an engine that has never been run, plastic plugs still in place, with no identifying sales information. Have no idea what shelf life is! Thanks, Johnc

Gearbox oil , pre-mix oil for ROTAX 503UL

Came across a ROTAX 503UL w/DUCATI ignition that has never been run, probably bought just before the 503 was discontinued. Unfortunately, no operating instructions. 1. Can anyone tell me what type/manuf oil should be put in the gearbox. Also, what is the recommended oil to mix with the...

Post Conversion - Crank Rotation Tight

As you can see from the pics, Things are moving along. Engine still tight with new cylinders and pistons, but a little oil in the cyl. has loosened them up. Still more to do, but moving along. Thanks to all who contributed comments, advise, suggestions, encouragements, etc. I feel a whole lot...

    Manifold Pressure Equalization Tube

TFF, Sorry, but I'm not following you. Problem I am facing is I have 32mm VC carbs which should be 28's, per Leonard Milholland. Current advise is that they are too large and draw too much air and not enough gas when the throttle is advanced too fast. Since the engine is a 4 cylcle, and the...

Post Conversion - Crank Rotation Tight

Great idea Pops, I'll remember that when I get it running. On the 1/2VW, the oil galleys to the back two rods, bearings and heads, lifters are plugged, so the pump is oiling only half of the engine. Even if the CAM bearing is a bit oversized, Oil pressure should not be a problem. IMHO!
