    EAA flight advisor program?

I am a former DER and test pilot, mostly larger jets but some GA including my own exp single engine....but as someone mentioned above, that wouldn't make me an ideal test or instructor pilot for your Sonex as I know nothing about the type. I would say much of the test flight should happen on...

    $10 gallon Avgas

a note about 12V fuel transfers pumps…… most less expensive pumps are rated only for diesel, not gasoline. This is because of gasoline vapors are the real danger and the pump electrical elements needs to be sealed to prevent any arching from igniting fumes. I didn’t think it’s huge concern as...

I sometimes use 5 gal cans with a jiggle siphon. works great

    $10 gallon Avgas

my airport had 90UL while a flight school had a couple of LSA planes but it was almost as much as avgas. we modified the c172 system for ethanol and use regular car gas. Some airports have car gas on field to support ground equipment but you may not be able to plane close enough to pump...

    $10 gallon Avgas

AVGAS is over $8/gal now at my airport. I fill my exp c172 with cheapest ethanol car gas from gas station across the street, for about $3.60/gal using a 12V pump to transfer directly from my SUV to plane (got it from a farm supply store and works great). Most of my neighbors fly about 30-45 min...

    Certifications to weld on Airframe?

right you are....repair facilities can do whatever they are approved for but welder does not have to be "certified", which is a term with different meanings. For manufacturers it means something different than a welder a repair shop may have or they outsource. There are aerospace welding certs...

    Certifications to weld on Airframe?

in the certified world a welder is certified by the TC holder after demonstrating to holder or certified supplier they meet approved design requirements.....way over kill for exp. I'd suggest having a well qualified welder check at least his initial work.

    $10 gallon Avgas

Interesting that the MOGAS STC and the new UL STC is a sticker, no mods to aircraft……. I see why buying the MOGAS STC is reasonable, these guys had to jump through FAA hoops to get STC and they realize no additional revenue as you buy UL MOGAS anywhere. The new UL STC cost is relatively cheap...

    Private Pilot Training in Experimentals

most of the technical stuff is on prior posts. As mentioned prior, we had a lot of specific data on line but thanks for the congrats attorneys told us to take it down for liability in case someone crashes using our info.

Foreflight compatibility with TALOS avionics system

good luck, Been talking with Talos and they can't figure issue out still and doubt they will put much effort in to it anytime soon. My guess is some features are not fully GL90 compatible.

    Private Pilot Training in Experimentals

Keep getting questions from prior post about learning in EXP's, and some wanting to do what we did in building a EXP to learn to fly in..... so thought I'd give update on our experience & some advice. In a nut shell, we designed and built an alternative engine for certified airframes with...

It's possible to learn to fly on a homebuilt airplane?

There is a lot of mis info about training in EXP, much of which is misinformation and heresay. The FAA policy is training is allowed, and checkrides are allowed. However, there is no requirement for a CFI to perform training, or for FAA to conduct checkrides in an EXP. The references for this...

It's possible to learn to fly on a homebuilt airplane?

I lent my c172 experimental out to a buddy and helped him with his commercial training and he took and passed his FAA check ride in it. Another completed her private pilot training and check ride in it this week, as well. I got the LODA for the airplane and no problems. Our c172-V8 cost a lot...

Foreflight compatibility with TALOS avionics system

No baro altimeter and other issues with foreflight compatibility….just can’t make Talos work with foreflight. It is supposed to be GL90 compatible which foreflight is, but still not all features or indications work. Talos says they are working on it. I get pitot airspeed, but alt remains in gps...

Insurance for student pilot on experimental aircraft

Recently spoke with my insurance agent who said 4 carriers dropped out of market in last year. Not looking forward to my renewal bill in November.

    Once again with the FAA...

the FAA is not there for anyone but the airlines (they collect taxes for their infrastructure) and big business like Boeing that have political clout). GA cost them $ and they want it to go away. I worked on engineering projects for big jets that had significant $ behind them and things got...

Safe transfer of fuel from portable cans cans to fuel tanks

Thanks for suggestion but already have a 12v pump, but just occasionally the cans are more convenient and the jiggle hose doesn‘t make any mess.
