    CAD design for landing gear

I’m just a lay person, airline pilot, and stopped short engineer. Any design I decide on will have to have maintenance, reliability, and simplicity in mind. Cost is a factor so that is why I am here to get all the ideas and help I can. This is a great forum.

    CAD design for landing gear

So how does one go about finding an engineer to analyze a landing gear system? Are there small firms that can do this?

    CAD design for landing gear

I have been in contact with the owner of WAR, and several WAR plane owners that fly them regularly. Ease of Maintenance is an issue. An update to the design will address this. The gear are already designed but need refreshing and some areas of your comments apply. The trunnion area is one...

    CAD design for landing gear

I’m seeking the advice and observations so I can know if there are better solutions or methods from the get go. I’d want to be able to direct the engineer-designer from a more knowledgeable position.

    CAD design for landing gear

The wheel axle has issues(strength), the trunnion area definitely has issues(wear and narrowness), alignment of the side brace when in motion is an issue, the gear leg/ole system needs some improvement. The basic system works but it has been problematic.

    CAD design for landing gear

I think the basic design is OK…..it was designed in the 70’s so surely there are better analysis tools that can help with materials and kinematics. I’m redrawing from the plans and “visualizing” what might be better. Im sure there will be some re-engineering needed.

    150. I am exploring kitting the design. Therefore the gear needs to be working well.

    CAD design for landing gear

The airplanes weigh about 1000#. Of course I need wall thickness as thin as possible but with safety factor. Should I use hydraulic pipe? The current WAR trunnion is only 3” wide and approx 2 1/4”. I’ll have actual dimensions when I look at the plans.

    CAD design for landing gear

I have a WAR FW190 that has landing gear issues. I have decided I should do a deep dive and fix the issues. There are strut problems and general looseness that is incurred due to the budget design. I think the WAR oleo strut should be ok with some improvements such as hard chroming the...

    TA-152 Washout.

Have you looked at the WAR FW190? They need to be updated but they are right at 58%scale and fly pretty well. Redesigning to make a Dora should be fairly straightforward.

    DIY Tug

Could an electric mobility scooter work for an airplane tug?

AP in Birmingham area that will sign off condition inspection of a WAR P47.

There is a flying WAR P47 in Pell City that is out of annual and needs an AP who is willing to sign off the condition inspection. The airplane is in excellent condition and flys regularl, until it went out of annuAl. Does anyone know someone in that area that would do the inspection?

Airfoil selection for an aircraft out there?

That would be an easy change. Engines are available and it would only require modest changes.

Airfoil selection for an aircraft out there?

I’m 5’10”, 200# and fit in the cockpit. It is small and could use a 1/2” here and there. We do limit the number of buyer pilots with a cockpit that doesn’t have a lot of room. I hope to gain some tiny amounts. Upscaling adds issues also. Materials and weight being two. The current WAR...

Surfaces 2.8 - Aircraft design and analysis software

I am looking for simple programs for lay people. It seems there should be software that is reasonably priced that can get fairly close to real numbers. I do not have time to spend 100’s of hours learning the program.

Airfoil selection for an aircraft out there?

What does “mod” mean in a wing foil section? For example….NACA 64-415 mod. I am assuming it means modified. How do I look at the shape? This is not for the WAR project. I have a Grumman and when I was looking at the incomplete guide to airfoils, I thought I would look up my...
