Scrappy’s Landing Gear Wings - Yay or Nay?

Give the man as much crap as you like. He’s engineering, building, and flying while we’re sitting here armchair quarterbacking his accomplishments. He’s done more in a weekend than I’ve done in my lifetime. I give the man ”props” all day!

    First Ultralight Flight This Weekend

I watch bush pilots and have the same reaction. Going to have to figure out how to fly that close to the ground.

    Oshkosh 2020 Cancelled

The 800 number isn't connecting for me this morning. I've got a side-message in to one of the staffers. I'll let you know what he says. Edit: From their FB page a few days ago:

    First Ultralight Flight This Weekend

I haven’t formed a solid opinion on it yet. I was concentrating on going through the motions more than anything. I’m sure it’ll be great fun once I loosen up a bit. It “seemed” like I was having fun. :)

    First Ultralight Flight This Weekend

I’ll see what I can find out. Our UL club has Drifter experience, he just wasn’t there when I flew. There was another person who has flown it as well, but he was recording it at the time. Sadly (luckily) the footage didn’t turn out, so no video evidence to learn from. Where can I find Arty?

    First Ultralight Flight This Weekend

Hi all, Long time, no see! So, I made my first ultralight flight this past weekend. Climbed into a 447-powered single-seat Drifter and went for a spin. It's my first experience with a pusher of any kind, and it was an enlightening experience. The Drifter, for the uninitiated, is sort of a...

    Double Eagle Station 2 Crossbar

I received my steel shipment from Wicks for the landing gear and fuselage updates. The fuselage is at the hangar, and I planned to start the gear at home. The only source of power for the hangar is a home-store rattle box generator. The LED shop lights definitely flicker during use. Not sure...

    Double Eagle Station 2 Crossbar

I was worried you were talking about the whole spar! Just adjacent to the strut attach points. 🥵 Should be a fairly straightforward fix. I hope...

    Double Eagle Station 2 Crossbar

That’s the direction we’ll likely go if the plans reveal John’s observation.

They did. I have the entire plan set.

    Double Eagle Station 2 Crossbar

I presume we’re just talking about laminating the spar web with ply to close the holes. I guess you could say it’s a “no-holes bar” repair.😅

    Double Eagle Station 2 Crossbar

Thanks for the guidance on those points. We have the new gear drawings and I’ll be using those. Steel for that is on order. I’ll take a look at the spars and see how they’re configured.

    Double Eagle Station 2 Crossbar

I think it’ll be similar to these with fewer members. Appreciate the ideas!

Yeah, a favorite place to spend a day :(

    Double Eagle Station 2 Crossbar

Weather finally warmed up giving us an opportunity to get Moving in the Eagle. We knew one wing had problems so we stripped both to investigate. One broken rib where it attaches to the front spar to tend to. The fabric was over shrunk so theres been some twistage in places. Working on...

Caught a reply by JP in a Facebook post recently that the museum (and grounds) won’t be open until August sometime. 😢
