Alex Strojnik inspects Mike Arnold's AR-5

That's Camber Ratio, George; the height of the maximum point on the camber line with respect to the chord line, expressed as a percentage of the length of the chord line. The Min CR refers to how nearly "uncambered" or how "nearly symmetrical" of an airfoil can be used at the given point of...

Alex Strojnik inspects Mike Arnold's AR-5

It is a reference to propeller efficiency so the power curve of the engine does not play into it. (That would be propulsive efficiency, not propeller efficiency.)

Why Jets fly high and propellers can't keep up

TL;DR. Peter Garrison is the Steven King of aircraft performance and design storytellers.

Hey BoKu, it would be nice to get an update soon since August starts next week. If you need any help we're standing by.

    ideal aerofoil

These are the NACA profiles that Riblett used to build his airfoils: 0015, 63-015, 64-015, 65-015, 30-015, 63-A015, 64-A015, 40-A015. So, YES, his airfoils are "very" similar. He also uses the NACA mean lines ("camber lines") which he modifies at the leading edge so, yes, Riblett's airfoils are...

There are many such papers. Most get it wrong. Save your sacrificial brain cells for life's truly important sacrifices, like a really good Scotch....

    ideal aerofoil

No Roncz airfoil has ever flown on a Quickie or Quickie derivative (Q2, Q200, Tri-Q, Dragonfly, etc.) I've been trying to get somebody else to be *that* guinea pig for a long time. The Quickie/Q-2 used the GU 25-5(11)8 airfoil on the canard, which was replaced by the NLF(1)-0417MOD airfoil on...

    ideal aerofoil

Riblett's airfoils *are* NACA 64-66 series airfoils (actually 63-65 series; and assembled incorrectly) and the NLF airfoils were largely miserable in practice, but I'm with you on the rest of the sentiment. (Due credit to Riblett: he had a legitimate beef with the leading edge treatment of the...

Except Riblett was wrong about how to "assemble the parts."

IF ONLY that were operationally true; finally, an explanation for why all my landings were clunkers! jk

Which one? Inboard, mid-span, outboard? I'm fairly certain Greg Cole didn't use just one....

thrust expected from an 1834cc VW?

No offense intended to anyone, but, "OMG we lost Carlson." "OMG we lost Lipps." "OMG Norris' book is inscrutable." "OMG Theodorsen is opaque." "OMG we need to go back to the dark ages and conjuring shadowy spirits to get good thrust." Really, people, it's not that dire. NACA TN 212 by Weick as...

    Source for Carbon Rods?

I would think that would depend on the application. Low modulus translates to large deflections for long wings, requiring more material used further below its strength capability to provide the needed stiffness; the high modulus materials like Graphlite are already being used well below strength...
