The Annual EAA 292 Fly-In & STOL Expo Canceled For June 2022 7S5, Independence Oregon

Just found out all the sport air races were canceled this year except for Oshkosh which I can't make due to scheduling. Sucks I spent a lot of time getting my plane ready for the season.

    Earth X Battery

I have had a earthx battery and used a small portable jump pack I bought off ebay when I accidentally killed the battery. About the size of a wallet and I believe around $25

    Airplane for the Common Denominator

Yeah it definitely shook my nerves to the core. Staring straight down on the 180 turn to gain speed was not something I will ever forget. I thought I was going to be a lawn dart at one point.

    Airplane for the Common Denominator

Luckily it was just the plug being spit out but I did end up buying new heads to save from that worry for awhile. Previous owner had helicoils in every plug so that probably didn't help if they weren't done right. Now have about 30 hours in it flawless.

Looking for an alternative engie for the 503 and 582?

Oh man I had one on my old phone. Maybe I can get my buddy to send me one but it's a very close weight to a 582. The dimensions I measured were almost identical to a 582. I was going to out one on my avid but the chance to get the sonerai I have now came up and I couldn't pass up the deal.

Part103 in every way but does not meet stall speed? Thoughts?

Yes it is but when almost every runway in Florida gets a x wind along with it need those ailerons

Part103 in every way but does not meet stall speed? Thoughts?

Had them on my Avid. They worked but in gusty situations forget it. You lost quite a bit of aileron authority with them extended. I stuck to just flying it in without them after trying a couple of times. Might have been the design but that's my experience.

    Airplane for the Common Denominator

It dropped power so bad my climb was almost immediately gone. Had to drop the nose and kick the rudder fast. Went from 90mph to 60mph really quick and the motor was running terrible. No way I was going to try and limp around the airport. Congested area and not knowing it was a plug were big...

Looking for an alternative engie for the 503 and 582?

The Yamaha 3 cylinder is very close to the 582 measurement and weight with double the horsepower. I know a guy with probably 1500 hours on one in his gyrocopter.

    Airplane for the Common Denominator

Haha yes I did .. it was the most frightening experience I have ever had flying. Just had to remember to fly the plane and we both made it back in one piece.

    Loehle 5151-how many still around?

Oomph I wanted to stear clear from this thread because I owned a 5151 but I got sucked in. Desired for a 503 it was terrible. I had a hirth laying around that I was going to install but sold the package deal. The hirth weighed close to a 503 with the power of a 582. Probably would've been fun...
