    Diesel fiberglass tank question

I have also used EZ Poxy from Aircraft Spruce on a number of my builds. The fuel cells used 100 LL and also Gas station diesel depending on a piston or jet power plant. The EZ Poxy is commonly used by the Long EZ and Cozy builders for the fuel tanks and fuel sumps. As mentioned, as long as...

    HP-18J Self-Launch Sailplane Project

It seems to be about right if not a little better then expected. My goal was to be able to climb to 3K and have enough fuel remaining for a couple of re-lights.

    HP-18J Self-Launch Sailplane Project

The testing of the twin turbines is now complete, below are a couple of notes regarding my last flight test: The weather and wind was favorable for the one remaining flight test last Friday. After assembly and one turbine test run the HP-18J was pulled out to the runway for the last remaining...

Turbine power for self launch and sustained flight.

The weather and wind was favorable for the one remaining flight test last Friday. After assembly and one turbine test run the HP-18J was pulled out to the runway for the last remaining flight test - the self-launch exercise. Wind speed and direction was 5 to 10 mph almost right down the...

Turbine power for self launch and sustained flight.

In general an airspeed of 75 to 80 mph seemed to be the the best range for climb. I did increase it to 105 mph for a short duration and it showed a slowing trend in the climb rate. Many more flights will provide more finite data as I get time to do further speed and climb exercises.

Lee, My mods appear to be successful with the twin turbines. The flight test program is mostly completed and all I have remaining is the self launch procedure. I am the builder of my bird and have made many modifications, so I am somewhat free to change and modify as I please. At this point...

Turbine power for self launch and sustained flight.

The weather has improved in the Mid West and the flight testing of the HP-18J has resumed. Last weekend I took a 3,000' tow with the twin turbines at idle. Upon release I applied full power for a 2 minute duration climb for the first test. The climb provided a 1,200 gain or a 600' per minute...

Turbine power for self launch and sustained flight.

The HP-18J is currently at the end of its testing phase as a true sailplane (non turbine powered) and has been a joy to fly. I am starting to get used to the plane but have a ways to go before I am one with the craft. It seems to be a bit weak on yaw control during cross wind landings and...

    HP-18J Self-Launch Sailplane Project

None to really speak of. Being an experimental may have helped, but the key is that it is an aircraft and not an airplane. The turbines are not being used as the primary source of propulsion.

Most of the changes were Udo Rumpf's with his airfoil modification.

    HP-18J Self-Launch Sailplane Project

After a number of years, the HP-18J sailplane project has been completed. I am currently in the flight testing stage as a true glider utilizing a tow plane to become airborne. Upon completion of the flight testing (10 hours), the turbine testing stage will follow. The sailplane project is a...

Turbine power for self launch and sustained flight.

After a number of years the project has been completed and had flown. I am 6 hours into the flight testing stage as a true glider while using a tow plane for launching. Most of the flight envelope has been expanded and defined in the sailplane mode. Upon completion of the 10 hours of flight...

Turbine power for self launch and sustained flight.

After a number of years of construction, the project is nearing completion. I have replaced the US Micro jet turbines with two Jet Cat P300 turbines. These engines are greatly simplified in comparison to the older turbines (no propane needed to start). The P300's also provide 68 pounds of...

    L'Hotellier Swivel Joint Connectors

I am looking for a source for new or used and "serviceable" L'Hotellier swivel joint connectors for my sailplane project. The connectors could have a ball diameter of 9 or 12mm and the ball stem being 11-12 mm long measured from the shoulder to the centre of the ball. These are not the in-line...
