    Anyone recognize this homebuilt twin-rotor helo?

    Someone posted this on a FB page I'm a member of and we are trying to find more info about it. All we have is this pic, though supposedly it was built by someone in Africa (go figure) and has been flown (I"m somewhat dubious on that last feat). The rotors are articulated and both are powered...

    SR-71 50th Anniversary

    Interesting bit of trivia for all you avgeeks :) 50 Years ago today (Dec 22, 1964) Lockheed SR-71 (s/n 61-7950) made its maiden flight from Air Force Plant 42, Palmdale, California (The Skunkworks) with Lockheed test pilot Bob Gilliland onboard. Earlier versions of the aircraft (the...

    Checklist deficiencies- or... what do you wish checklists would include?

    Hi guys/gals, I'm developing a new type of aviation checklist, and I was curious what everyone here thought about the ones currently out? What do they do well? What DON"T they do well? Too much info? Not enough info? What do you wish they included? Thoughts/remarks/comments? I'll update...

    Light Aircraft Design Wiki education site...a.k.a. "HBA College"...

    Hello everybody, After waiting since about 2007/2008 to see if the "HBA College" idea ever panned out, it hasn't. And so, I've decided to start the wiki page myself. It is hosted by Wikispaces, and the url is https://lightaircraftdesign.wikispaces.com/ You must join the wiki to edit pages. I...

    any amateur astronomers here?

    I am an amateur astronomer and was wondering how many others here that are? It seems to me that the kind of mind that wants to build an airplane, and especially design one, are also interested in these kind of things. I've been an amateur astronomer for about 5 years. I use an 8" Celestron...

    Hangar tents?

    Hey all, I just had an idea shoot through my head and wanted to post it here. Do you think theres a market for a sort of portable "hangar" tent? Kinda like those heavy duty carport tents? Do you know what I mean? Could be used as a temporary airplane storage, or to do your homebuilt aircraft...

    Soviet X14 Ultralight

    Came across this "vintage" ultralight today. Anyone else ever heard of it? Seems like an interesting design, thought at first glance I'd say the wings are WAYYYYYYYYYYY to small to actually fly supporting a person. Though with a big enough engine and going fast enough I suppose it may be...

    using a snowmobile engine...

    I have a bunch of older snowmobile engines laying around, made by Bombardier( Rotax right?). What would I need to convert it to an aero engine? A rebuild kit? There is a local small engine repair co here I could have do the work. What kinds of Bombardier engines were in old snowmobiles...

    Solid wings

    I was just curious if any light aircraft use a "solid" wing? The wing being shaped out of one large(several small blocks joined together) foam core that is fiber glassed. This wouldn't have enough strength, would it? Would it weigh alot more than a wing of standard construction?

    Power Loading equation question...

    From Raymer's Simplified Aircraft Design for homebuilders. The equation is on page 12,: W/hp = 276(200)-.65 = 8.8 Ok, so the 200 is V, V being max speed in kts. I dont understand what to do with the -.65 though. How do you take it to the -.65th power?! If I'm even understanding that...
