    The big video topic

I don't post much anymore, but I thought I would make an exception for this:

    Darryl Greenamyer

I'm a fan of DG, so take it for what it's worth. Everybody has failures; how would anyone else have performed tramping around on a glacier in Greenland with limited resources? And there may have been a judgement call in play; if they didn't get it out then, would it have ever been gotten out...

But you did get it done, and I can't say that I don't admire you for that. Bret

Dan! The guys name was Dan, now I remember, and here's the thread: A good and productive discussion with lots of good input from various quarters.

Hi, Ross. As I remember from a thread you started a year or two ago, you had actually hired an engineer who did understand TV, to run that math model for you, as well as try to explain the concept behind the math to you; what was his or her name again? Bret

    Between-the-war aircraft replicas

Wow, me too, I guess. But I think I'll leave it there as a monument to whatever it was I was trying to say.:emb:

    Between-the-war aircraft replicas

We say bad things about the French. It is unwarranted. Remember that the British were pushed off of the beach at Dunkirk. The French aircraft were excellent, and they also had good planes like the Curtiss, which in the CBI theater were said to be able to turn with Japanese fighters (Hayabusas)...

Is that spot welded? Also, cute little biplane down at the end there (D-EDMH).

    Lippisch DM1

I wonder how much skill it would take to fly a DM-1?

    Pegasus O-100 airframes

A slightly enlarged, all metal, redesign of the Heath Parasol. Most any small European single seater like the Druine Turbulent, Jodel Bebe, Brugger Colibri, etc.

    O-100-- interesting new engine

Beautiful airplane. Supermarine Sparrow II would fly great with a DP-100 I bet!

I think it's obvious that Kim Jong-il is behind this.

    O-100-- interesting new engine

Wow, been up for a day and there's already 2,200 views. I think for something as esoteric as a small engine for homebuilt aircraft, that's a very good indication of interest.

    Stabilization against buckling.

I think Mad Mac hit the nail right on the head (if the formula is not extremely complex) and that Beam Column is the proper approach for this. In fig. 1., you have a buckled column with compression and moments equal to compression force times the lateral displacement (which Billski pointed out)...

Cassutt - looking for anyone who knows anything about it

Here's some contrast; I think the tail on the silver one has better proportions and I like the slightly raked LE, and it looks a little bit bigger:

    Stabilization against buckling.

Heh, I always did the quick bounce and that would crush the can nicely - I'm not sure I ever had good enough balance to do the side poke trick and I'm not sure I ever even heard of it until you guys brought it up!

    Stabilization against buckling.

Thanks, proppastie. You did spur me into finding my old copy of Bruhn (wasn't sure I had one). The subject matter you posted is actually in a completely different chapter from my old 1949 copy (smells slightly funky!), but mine might not have the Gerard method. Will look at this more in the next...

Why was the Cub a ...

I hate to waste things, and the Pawnee is not as useful as an ag plane as it used to be, and the usual two seat conversion is ugly, but this would make a good military trainer for air forces with a budget (Matthew posted a different video of this on Secret Projects)...
