Question about allen head/socket cap screws

Hi. I contacted holo-krome about their socket set screws, forwarding some of our conversation above. Here is what they had to say. Am I missing something in the translation? lol Thank you for your interest in Holo-Krome socket screw products. Set screws are normally used as compression...

Just how hard is it to design a small aircraft?

As a member of this board since 2003, I can second the motion that designing a plane is not an easy task. It helps to have a rather heavy math background. Orion is entirely correct in that FEA and other related programs are only tools-if you don't know how to use it, it won't do much good, and...

Question about allen head/socket cap screws

I AM WORKING ON SOMETHING THAT HAS 12 DIMPLES IN THE SHAFT AND IS HELD BY 12 SETSCREWS. YOU COULD ASSUME THAT ALL OF THE SET SCREWS WOULD HAVE TO FAIL IN SHEAR SINCE THE ENDS OF THE SCREWS ARE RECESSED INTO THE DIMPLES. IM GUESSING AT THE YIELD BEING 100 K#/SI (I THINK IT IS MUCH CLOSER TO 150...

Question about allen head/socket cap screws

Hi Again. Sorry I wasn't clear earlier. If you have an allen head screw, like the type used to grip a small shaft, it has 2 ends. One end is where you would insert the allen wrench. The other end is slightly smaller, flattened, with small hatch marks, that grip the shaft. I need info on the area...

Question about allen head/socket cap screws

Does anyone know where I can find information about how many square inches the knurled end of an allen head/socket cap screw is? I haven't been able to find anything. I particularly need to know the area of both 1/2" and 3/8" screws. Since the knurled end is cut down to more of a point and...

    Missing some info...

Is the AirplanePDQ program by DaVinci Technologies still available? The last listed update was 5 years ago. My copy crashed, and am trying to get another, but no response on the website. If not available, can someone recommend a replacement with the same basic abilities to play around with that...

Designing from scratch, where to start??

Might I suggest taking flight ground school? You don't have to take the full course (flight time is expensive, especially when going solo your first time, although the experience is rather remarkable). Ground school will give you a good first place to start, and although it does only cover the...

    Roadable Aircraft

aircar The Moller air car seems to fulfill many of the above requirements, and is supposed to be on its way to being certified. However, this particular car has been in developement for about 30-40 years, and certification was its problem as far back as the 80's. Just my thoughts on the matter...

    Wheel rpm

Where would I go to find the formula that will tell you the rpm of a landing gear wheel while you are in motion? I know the diameter of the tire and the speed. Thanks for the help.

    Kit costs and build time

Try this one: http://www.affordaplane.com/ As with any plans kit, it should be helpful to remember that most hourly estimates are made by someone at the factory who has already built a few of that particular model. The more you build, the faster they go together. In my limited experience, if...

    Interiors, seats specifically

A good source of seats is the auto aftermarket. Speedway.com has an extensive selection of aluminum racing buckets with a variety of widths, depths, and tilt. They are usually one piece, and they also sell cushions and covers. The prices range from 100 to 300 bucks, but they provide the needed...

ESTABLISHING C.G IN A UNIQUE DESIGN

Just a thought. If beaching the aircraft to allow pilot access, wouldn't the ramp need to meet another ramp already installed on the beach? I don't know much about being handicapped, so please excuse my ignorance, I mean no offense-but isn't it really hard to push/drive a wheelchair through very...
