    Defend Raptor

He needs real engineers to give feedback on his design. But knowing Peter that's probably not going to happen

    10/23 Raptor Video

I'm pretty sure his next gen has to be a joke, there's no way he would actually think of doing that.... but watching the video again, he has too many details, he's definitely thought about this more than just to make a silly video

    10/23 Raptor Video

We all wonder how the project makes any sense too, so you're not alone

    10/23 Raptor Video

Anyone know did he ever demonstrate it's "cruise" speed? Has he admitted yet that it's no where near the performance of a SR-22? I stopped following his progress because well, we all know it's an inevitable train wreck.

    Raptor Composite Aircraft

You're saying mixed things here. As an aerodynamicist I can tell you that there is definitely adverse pressure gradient developing on the roof the aircraft, causing separation and therefore there is not a lot of air going into the scoop. I highly doubt it is laminar there. Yes he should have...

    Raptor Composite Aircraft

Yeah, there is a very high chance the airflow is detaching right before the opening of the air scoop on the top. Something that could have easily been spotted in the design phase had he had proper CFD testing.

    Raptor Composite Aircraft

Yes I think most of us on this page know this. Just a guess but that pitch oscillation is coming the fact of the canard downwash increasing when it's aoa increases, which then increases the lift on the wing, and since the AC is between the canard and the wing, it is pivoting about that. You...

    Raptor Composite Aircraft

I know a few things about airflow from CFD, he's not going to get better cooling by lowering the nose, his air scoop on the roof is just not in a good place, and too short.

    Celera 500L (was: More Vaporware)

If you were to talk to the engineers and learn the real story of the Celera 500 development, you wouldn't be impressed from what I heard. There's a reason they've been very quiet, its only recently they're showing more of the design to draw in investors but still very limited info about their...

    Raptor Composite Aircraft

There's nobody saying here that they did CFD for Peter, you must have misread, don't make up false information please.

    Raptor Composite Aircraft

Well in his youtube video he refers to it as solidworks simulation, my guess was since he is novice with CFD he would just have used the add-on wizard. And even if the did you use the more robust software of Cosmosflo, his analysis is really basic; for example his pressure range is auto, they...

    Raptor Composite Aircraft

If you look at the CFD photos on his website, it is SW. Since you haven't used it you may not be familiar but its pretty clear his CFD is all ********. His SR-22 comparison was a model he made, which means it's actually not 100% accurate, compounded by inaccurate software means his numbers are...

    Raptor Composite Aircraft

Interesting find.. Peter claims on his website "estimated takeoff distance 1100ft", well looking at one of his old videos and counting the stripes and correlating with google maps I calculated the raptor used 1850ft of runway to reach 80kts. Now obviously idk if that's max acceleration but he...

    Raptor Composite Aircraft

Coming from academic background with CFD experience, you are absolutely correct, Solidwork's CFD is inaccurate for detailed aerospace applications. No aircraft manufacturer uses this software for CFD. So all his performance numbers he claims that he thinks it will be more efficient than the...

Surfaces 2.8 - Aircraft design and analysis software

Those are only for 2D analysis if I'm correct. Seemed like the OP was looking for 3D analysis capability
  16. F

    Raptor Composite Aircraft

There's no way Peter knows where the aerodynamic center is on that, he has never had an outsider do proper aero analysis with CFD which is what is required (his solidworks software is not capable of detailed analysis). So therefore he can't know what the static margin is if he doesn't know the...

Surfaces 2.8 - Aircraft design and analysis software

I don't know anything about this software, but it's not mainstream. Unless they have wind tunnel data to backup the accuracy of their simulation mode, physics, meshing, I wouldn't touch it. Fluent, STAR CCM+, Open Foam are the real programs that are used in industry but they're not cheap. I have...

    Raptor Composite Aircraft

Well you should also realize that video released by Wasabi Flight Test only shows some things presumably. They did their best to find as much wrong with the plane and Peter didn't like it, told them to screw off basically. It's their job to scrutinize the plane so it doesn't crash. I suspect...

    Raptor Composite Aircraft

Yeah his aerodynamic analysis is basically zero. He literally said he's gonna add more trim (cuz the air pressure pushed it back) and hope that works, like really? It's sad that his youtube audience thinks that thing is the really gonna fly....why I came over here to talk to sane people.
