    Mazda Rotary Engine

That is all correct. It is exacerbated by the fact so many people insist on running the rotary pig rich with no timing.

    Mazda Rotary Engine

I like theoretical as much as the next guy, but I'm talking about what you can do now, today, with parts you can buy that are proven to work. You prove out my point- For an rotary flight engine you want side intake ports and peripheral exhaust ports. And boost if you need over 150hp...

Crashes in the News - Thread

I offered no opinion, just information. The AOPA video has as much "facts not in evidence" as either of the two privately made videos.

Crashes in the News - Thread

Dan Gryder put out a video where he opines that the pilot was incapacitated, possibly from a recent covid vaccine shot or some other issue. Jaun Brown put out a video saying it was spatial disorientation.

    Mazda Rotary Engine

There is simply no way the peripheral port intake make more lower anything, except lower power at low to medium engine speeds. The peripheral port I'm advocating is the exhaust port, and the cheif objection to the Renesis side exhaust port is the lack of power and how it makes it. I could get...

You seem to be confusing intake and exhaust ports.

What is your biggest gripe about your hangar?

My only gripe is I do not have one and the waitlist for one is longer than my.... well you know

    Mazda Rotary Engine

MMM no? Overspeeding is the reason most turbos come apart. Shaft RPM is a huge indicator of that and it is not particularly hard to monitor. Thermal limits are an entirely different matter and get into a realm of rabbit holes I see no need to go down. Yes, we can monitor EGT before and after...

    Flight Helmets?

I'm using a 'bump helmet" designed for military uses that allows easy use of comms. I am personally using a $70 bump helmet with a kit to adapt my ANR Headset to the helmet permanently, and saving my Zulu headset for GA use. This link is only to show what can be done all in one place, and is...

That is all correct, but I can monitor compressor and turbine shaft RPM accurately, temps not so much.

    Mazda Rotary Engine

Not hard to pick the right turbo. I am going to be using a Garret based GT3582R with a .70 anti-surge compressor housing and a stainless V-band inlet/outlet turbine housing in the .82 to 1.06 range. There are other, simpler and cheaper choices. It would be hard to go wrong with a Borg/Warner...

    Mazda Rotary Engine

Mmmmm.. seems? No, sorry, P-Ports have not been perfected as far as the sealing goes. At some point they will leak coolant into the intake stream. They are also not in any way optimized for the RPM range used in aircraft. Sure, if you want a high power low time powerplant that is turning...

    Mazda Rotary Engine

Well, as I stated somewhere else, my semi-p-port housings are welded, which I believe are the most reliable, but can still crack and leak. The pressed in billet sleeves with sealing compound and o-rings have a lot of promise, with the only obvious concern being the life of the O-rings. My...

    Mazda Rotary Engine

So, to be clear, peripheral INTAKE ports are in general to be avoided in aircraft engines. Mainly because they are meant for high-RPM operation and as importantly they will leak coolant into the intake airstream at some point and may or may not be able to be repaired. Peripheral EXHAUST ports...

    Mazda Rotary Engine

Renesis did not make more torque with the side ports, they used higher static compression and intake plenum controls to do that.

    My 13B engine configuration (tentative)

Easy unfortunately doesn't always translate into profitable.

    My 13B engine configuration (tentative)

If there was a reasonably stable demand for a psru for the rotary I would think of making them, but near as I can tell the Marcotte works and is available if someone wants new. There are several RWS and ROSS PSRUs out there in the used market. The cost to tool up and develop/test a PSRU at this...

What did you do on your airplane project today?

Today I mocked up the tablets, dash display, switch panel, and one of the Talos units to get an idea of wire routing etc. The past few days have been spent figuring out the setup and operations of the Talos and adsb receiver, updating firmware, etc. so it all works.
