Basic Configuration for a "Safe" airplane

Not a F-11. Its a F-12, the 12 is built for up to a 180 hp Lyc. I built the engine from parts and believed it put or about 160+ HP. Looked at my records a few weeks ago and the EW was 1050 lbs, I was thinking it was lighter. Single place the ROC was 2200 fpm. GW of 1800 lbs with a ROC of...

Basic Configuration for a "Safe" airplane

My Falconar F-12 stalled at about 68 mph, no stall warning other than a high deck angle and lower noise level, and the next split second you were looking almost straight down and would spin right or left even with a small crosswind. Easy in and easy out. Spun it a lot. Very predictable in...

Experimental aircraft purchase - Do I need to pay sales tax and how? (California USA)

Just because you have a N number reserved in your name doesn't mean you have an airplane. Before you start the paper work for the airworthiness inspection, you have to get an N number. I got the N number for the JMR on the last day of Nov 2019. Called the FAA in the last week of March of 2020...

Experimental aircraft purchase - Do I need to pay sales tax and how? (California USA)

In this state they tax you in the county of your address and IF your airplane is based at another airport the assessor will go to the airports and get all the N numbers and you can get another tax from that county. I talked to the assessor about the double taxation, he said "get a lawyer"...

    Engine for Stewart Headwind?

1200 cam ? Stock cams on the 1200 cc, 40hp,-- 1300 cc, 50Hp--- 1600cc, 60 HP are all the same. Different cam gear on the same came after 1971, I believe. Stock cam is hard to beat for low RPM torque. Going from a 60" dia to a 62" dia x 26" pitch is a bit much for the 1835cc engine. I...

Youtube videos of Brazilian flywheel drive conversion

Thinking of making a new intake for the flywheel drive engine that will be put on the rebuilt SSSC. Making the hot oil box as part of the oil sump ( no hoses), and the carb bolted on the bottom of the box to the intake tube that is welded thru the box. Then the intake separates into a "Y" at...

    A/C nail supplier

I did that for my nailing strips installing the plywood on the fuselage sides of the KR-2. Makes it a lot easier to remove the staples without damaging the wood.

Youtube videos of Brazilian flywheel drive conversion

Correct. Mine was a little power increase and a much smoother engine. I did some work to get the mixture distribution as close as possible. The right front cylinder still was very slightly richer than the rest, but the CHT's was very close to the other 3. By checking the spark plug colors it...

I see he is using a hot oil box around the intake at the base of the carb.

    A/C nail supplier

Friend of mine in WY built a Christavia 1 in 1992 and flys it often. Loves it. EW with the Cont-0-200 is 950 lbs. If you go to a heavier engine you will have W/B problems and most end up with lead weights in the tail :(

    182 verses Skylane ?

One way a very large money pit that will cost more than you could buy a good one. The other way a smaller money pit, but you get to fly it.

Getting Out From Under the Wing?

Thanks, that is what I thought but now know for sure from an expert. Good engineering. One time as a millwright, I did the maintenance on the plants cranes up to the 200 ton overhead bridge cranes. Also had a lot of grantry cranes in the tool and die dept. The grantry cranes had a cap of...

Why round tubes for landing gear?

I had the same wear on the bolts on the C-150 round gear legs on my F-12. Had to replace the bolts on each leg and the bracket on the main spar had the bolt holes wore and I turned steel bushing and welded on each side of the bracket for more surface area at about the first 500 hrs. No wear...
