    New glider design

Funny you should mention that... ;) I've been thinking very much along the same lines, since the maximum component length in my build space is ~14.5'.

    New glider design

Any notion of a "sweet spot" or "ideal" span is going to be entirely subjective, and depend entirely on what kind of soaring the pilot wants to do. 18m certainly isn't anywhere near optimum for paragliders or hang-gliders, for example. Nor for trainers, nor for micro-lift gliders. I personally...

    New glider design

That's the exact same argument that was used for 15m ships 30 years ago as being the only "serious" soaring and the same one will be used for the 23m ships fifteen years from now, when anyone flying 18m gliders will be "just throwing away performance." In your case, since what you describe is...

    My work here is accomplished!

    Trailer Design - Resources?

Thanks for the suggestion. That looks really nice. I'll have to see what range of loads they have those in. There's nothing magical about 2,000 lbs here, even though that's the number that's been bandied about here for example. In point of fact, with a ~450lb. payload of airplane and spare...

    Trailer Design - Resources?

Thanks, Murry! I'll take you up on that. E-mail or call me and we can touch base on both that and next-steps for ESA after the workshop. I'd love to. But the guys with the glass don't like to fly out of Skylark very often because of the dirt runways, and Hemet, Crystal, and Warner Springs are...

Wow! That's quite the ingenious rig! I love the pivoting crane to sling the fuselage onto the wings. Very clever. Oh, and nice airplane, too! 😊

    Sun Protection from new member.

The sports/recreational apparel my clients sell - the lighter stuff, tops, etc. - very often has an SPF rating, at least with the better brands. Check out Marmot, ExOfficio, Mountain Hardwear, etc. I know for a fact that most of their products in this category have SPF ratings.

    Trailer Design - Resources?

Outstanding post. Thank you! It's going to take me a little bit to digest all that, but I'm sure I'll be back with questions. I really appreciate all the information in this post.

    Trailer Design - Resources?

The short and pithy answer is that there's simply nowhere else. If I put it in the garage, the 914 loses its home. I live in a condominium complex, so it's not like there's someplace else on the property it can stay. There are specific rules against storing trailers in the "guest" parking...

    Trailer Design - Resources?

Thanks, that works! However, we're getting into duplicates now. Karmarepair posted that same document in post #8, and I realize in looking through my OneNote notebook that I've gotten the Timbren "rubber block" axle-less suspension twice now, as well. Pretty sure that's for inter-state...

    T-51 Mustang on Ebay

Looks like everyone is making a modest profit each time they sell the wreckage.

Absolutely not being snarky at all, legitimate question: Did any of the glider trailers you ever owned have gas shocks?

I'm getting a 404 on that link. Sounds interesting, though!

    Trailer Design - Resources?

I looked at the CA DMV website section for "Specially Constructed Vehicles" and there doesn't seem to be any such restriction here. The usual ream of forms and fees, but nothing untoward. They mention the case of building a trailer from a kit, but I don't believe what I want qualifies for that...

    Trailer Design - Resources?

Another page clipped into the notebook! Thanks! I'm leaning more and more towards a bolt-on solution like this, rather than scavenge a car suspension or such. Just don't want to "fiddle" with something, especially for a trailer. The more I can "bolt it together and go," the more I like it.

    T-51 Mustang on Ebay

If it was developing full power when it hit the trees, they do. Sounds like a classic departure stall at low altitude. That's square on the pilot. What a shame. Looks like it was a beauty at some point.

Basic Configuration for a "Safe" airplane

Much of it comes down to an unhealthy attitude about "safety." There's no such thing, only relative amounts of it, that you have to weigh against the rewards the amount of risk gain you. Technology does not provide a blanket improvement in safety. For every improvement in "safety," there is a...

What is this twin engine seaplane

Incredibly dangerous? Dunno. Never seen that one before, but I don't like that the props are right in the path both the pilot and passenger would naturally take up to the front of the floats. You'd be passing through or near the prop arc every time you got into it. And the fuselage-side strut...
