thrust expected from an 1834cc VW?

No offense intended to anyone, but, "OMG we lost Carlson." "OMG we lost Lipps." "OMG Norris' book is inscrutable." "OMG Theodorsen is opaque." "OMG we need to go back to the dark ages and conjuring shadowy spirits to get good thrust." Really, people, it's not that dire. NACA TN 212 by Weick as...

Hmm. Seems to me an "I told you so" gets inserted here about now.... ;)

    Source for Carbon Rods?

I would think that would depend on the application. Low modulus translates to large deflections for long wings, requiring more material used further below its strength capability to provide the needed stiffness; the high modulus materials like Graphlite are already being used well below strength...

WolfHawk looks like something I drew once. Can you tell me more about it?

    Free-blowing a bulged bubble canopy?

Lots of good articles on this topic in early (-ish) Sport Aviation magazines.

I stand corrected. Darn second-hand info, it’s like a second-hand pair of shoes: worn out before you ever get to use it. Is “100 year old Jack” Jack Norris by any chance? If so, please tell him hello for me next time you see him. Thanks. I’ll try calling Ed another time now that I know he’s...

You're welcome! Please let me know if he replies. I've been wanting to talk to him, too, but it seems he no longer answers propeller questions from strangers. I think he got hounded after an incident and just wants to be done with it all. :(

    Ace Aviation Redrive: New model

Don't go there. The one thing most prop design discussions in this horsepower range neglect is Reynolds' number; by the time you carve four itty-bitty blades, all the assumptions about the airfoil that were built into the prop design software or input from TOWS are not valid anymore and your...

I think you're looking for Al Schubert's book. Here's a link to a copy: http://westcoastpiet.com/images/Construction/HowIMakeProp.pdf http://westcoastpiet.com/images/Construction/Prop_Pictures_file.pdf Look on "Page 67" which is page 94 in the first PDF above.

    Pultrusion party

Bob, Please count me in. I would very much like to participate in such an event. For those who cannot attend, I’ve got a Sony Handycam and a tripod I can bring, but I’m no videographer; I’ll be soliciting donations to pay for video memory cards and my attention will be on learning and doing...

The vacuum system shown on that page is similar to ones offered here in plans or kit form (or individual parts as needed). I built one and am VERY pleased with it.

    Source for Carbon Rods?

When Goodwinds says they are no longer manufacturing "longer lengths," they are speaking in relative terms. I spoke to them last year (they actually invite phone calls on their website -- check it out!) they said that they had a shipping liability issue with the big 1000 ft coils. There is a LOT...

    EAB "Hall of Fame" Designers

Has anyone mentioned Lou Stolp? Stardusters were hot, once. Or Jim Stewart who designed the all-metal Chevy-powered S-51? Marcel Jurca? Roger Druine? Walter Jamouneau? Alberto Santos-Dumont? Henri Mignet? Ed Heath? Les Long? Tom Story? Ivan Diggs? Vernon Payne? Who designed "Moon Maid,"...
