KT: If the Sperry drawings are on microfilm, just order the reel(s)...Way less expensive than the single sheet drawings.

    Airplane plans inventory

I used to correspond with a guy in Australia that was building one too...Think his name was Dean McKay...hadn't heard anything from him for probably a year or more prior to Gene's crash.

    Airplane plans inventory

Probably the Lycoming... I used to correspond with Gene Underland and keep up with what he was doing on his with the Walter 601. Was pretty bummed when Gene went down in the Seawind in 2007.

I've always got my eye out for a set of plans for the Brokaw Bullet. Just missed on the only two sets I've seen for sale in the last 15 years.

How are ribs attached to the spars of a tapered wing

Could design them like some of the current jets....no ribs, but multiple spars.

    Stinson L-5 wing

There are actually two built up metal ribs within the L-5 wing. One is the root rib and the other is at the lift strut. The lower side of the wing is built like a torsion box, while the upper surface is fabric covered. The fuel tank sits within a boxed area and is held in by two or three straps.

    P-51 Mustang Replica Tehnical Question

The fuselage longerons are one of the trickiest items for building one from scratch. Last time I saw some for sale was about 20 years ago and they were getting 8 grand for the set of 4 parts. Screw one up and they would only sell you a set.

    P-51 Mustang Replica Tehnical Question

Something to understand about certain skins used on the Mustang...they were formed in a stretcher press. There is no way to form them otherwise.

    P-51 Mustang Replica Tehnical Question

If you are going to build full scale, then just use the existing prints. Be forewarned that the cost for a flyable engine, prop, radiator and gear set are going to cost you in excess of $250,000 these days.

Presurization - Whats it take ?

What's even more chilling about that incident, is that the guy running the test was using an unapproved, homemade pressure gauge that had never been calibrated and had the capability of going multiple times around the scale with no indication of being past a single revolution. If I remember...

Presurization - Whats it take ?

We run a pressurized cockpit on our fighters. Takes quite a bit of structural engineering on the design side as well as understanding the principles of pressure vessel design. Everything that penetrates the vessel comes into play with the design, down to the control cables that penetrate the...

Presurization - Whats it take ?

Cessna P210 empty weight is between 400 and 500 lbs more than a T210. Most of that is from the pressurization system.

Drill bit sharpener or new bits?

A Black Diamond sharpener only goes down to a #70, and it’s a $9000 unit. A Micra10 will do it, but I couldn’t find a price on one, even a used one. I suspect that for doing microbits, you are going to be close to a Black Diamond grinder price for a used one. You couple probably buy a new...

Drill bit sharpener or new bits?

Buy your bits in bulk from one of the better known suppliers, such as MSC, McMaster-Carr or others. Stay with the better brands such as Cleveland. You can’t recover the cost of a decent drill sharpening rig when doing a single aircraft. Look at the cost of a Darex or Black Diamond sharpener for...

Bolt holes, burr and fatigue life effects

David... What programs were you an orange wire guy on? The NF-16 was one of the last -16's I built before going to the orange wire world for a number of years. :pilot: F-16, F-111, A-12, F-22 and a bunch of weird stuff was my world at that time.
