I beg to differ, lots of taper shaft Continentals flying with out issues, and the Radials like the R-2800, R-3350, & R4460 all has splined shafts....
If the Transponder run was like a lot of "big" and or military aircraft the yes us LMR-400 but for our birds a good quality RG-58 will work fine....
The Army on the TH-55's emphasized bottom the collective immediately if you had to do a auto rotation, of course you were flying "low" at that...
