Thanks for the tip on SDSEFT.com I was suggesting that more inertia be added to the engine side, since the rotary engine is so small

    Reduction drives

How important is it that the rotating inertia be equal on both sides of the damper? If it is, should I be using a Mazda flywheel meant for a manual transmission/clutch, instead of the much lighter one used for an automatic transmission. As it is, the prop may have a lot more inertia than the...

Thank you Charlie. I have not received the package yet. Neil said it will be available in a month or so. For the past 10 years I have been totally focused on the airframe construction. Just now I am getting up to speed on the firewall fwd.

It's been a long time since I have looked at Tracy's whole package. I didn't recall that it had a damper. Thank you for the heads up.

    Reduction drives

Thank you Billski, you're my man on this. I have a Mazda Renesis Rotary engine and will have a Tracy Crook PSRU. I can use your help on coming up with a damping device bolted right to the flywheel that will in-turn drive the PSRU. Who are these other guys who have come up with successful dampers?

I am very interested Neil. Can you send me the details on this unit, that being the RWS specs, and the history of this particular unit?

    Reduction drives

Considering that the reliability of these PSRU's are associated with torque spikes overstressing the gear teeth, has anyone considered adding a shock absorbing device between the engine and the PSRU? The idea I have is a simple spring and dashpot assembly. It could be made from the common...

Sorry Neil, my memory of our conversation has aged a little bit. I have nothing to base an opinion about price at this point.

    Reduction drives

Very good responses! Thank you very much. So I have been building my scratch design airplane for 10.5 years based on the Mazda rotary engine which I purchased 10.5 years ago. So now it's time to start working firewall fwd and I can't seem to get my hands on a PSRU. Where can I find a Tracy...

    Reduction drives

Okay, having read what Orion had to say, what is wrong with the idea of putting a lot of turbo boost on a direct-drive rotary, no PSRU, and run the engine slower? The fuel burn would be more complete at the lower rpm.

How many people are interested in a GOOD safe psru for the rotary?

I’m looking to buy a PSRU right now.

Torsional Vibration and Resonance - Basic Theory and Issues

Wow! So much to read and absorb! I have been building my airframe for 10.5 years and it is getting to be time to work fwd of the firewall. I have lots of questions. I would like to speak to someone who has got their system up and running nicely and can tell me how to do the same.

Mazda Rotary - what are the issues to be overcome?

My build of over 10 years is designed around the rotary engine. It has gotten to the point where I am just about to start working on the engine installation. I have the engine and nothing else. Who do I talk to about getting outfitted with the PSRU, ECU, Harmonic Damper, etc.?

    My Design & Construction

The wings fold and the horizontal stabilizer is narrow, 8 feet, so that it is legal to tow on the roads. This makes the horizontal stabilizer span a little too small to be sufficiently effective. By putting the verticals at the tips, that increases the effectiveness of the span that it has.
