    ls3 for aircaft

I ask you: what is your take on that PSRU? Are you confident with it? How much does it weigh? Seems to be a nice unit for using with a 5.3 LC9 bolted to an RV10.

    ls3 for aircaft

Well, My Friend, I am not ALL that used to using this forum features. It seams to me that your airplane is a T-51 with an LS3 mounted to it!!! What king of PSRU do you use???

    ls3 for aircaft

I believe you refer to the one used in the 376/480 crate engine. Yes, and it is quite in line with the Crane Cam grind deppicted by the chart I brought above. Since I am nothing more than a lay man on the subject, I am curious about what could be achieved with a custom grind cam, one set to...

    ls3 for aircaft

Good!!! Concerning the data from you engine, I thought the short stack exhaust manifolds would limit severely the output. That doesn´t seem to be the case.

    ls3 for aircaft

Hi. Spencers Ford uses a Ford Racing aluminum block and has its thrust bearing in the middle, just like all other 302 derived strokers...

Yes, the numbers are different from GMs. Those charts were taken from a cam comparison from http://www.enginelabs.com/engine-tech/cam-valvetrain/ls3-x-3-comparing-three-performance-cams-on-the-engine-dyno/

    ls3 for aircaft

Hi, TXFlyGuy. Your hp and torque numbers are in line with what a bone stock LS3 puts out. I intend to have my engine cammed in order to get the most torque dow low in the rpm range. Here are two dyno charts that show what I am looking for:

Hi. It´s been with great interest that I have been contemplating the idea of using a V8 engine in a direct drive instalation, in inverted form, in a small airplane like Van´s RV7, 8 and now the RV14. Actually, it is in my plans to do so in the near future. For quite some time I´ve defended using...

    The future is direct drive

Due to the upload failure noticed above, this is the RV7 with the stock LS3 manifold:

You are right. That´s the spirit.

    The future is direct drive

Here is a sketch of the instalation with the stock intake manifold: You see, it is perfectly doable, the problem being essencially aesthetical. And, of course, with such a short prop extension, a forward oriented intake is impossible. Another problem is that, as a backwards oriented intake is...

    The future is direct drive

Glad to meet you, ekimneirbo!!! Well, price says it all!!! And I´ve realized that the weight figures for aluminum small blocks are not as favorable as I thought: most published weights do not take into account sleeves and crank caps. So, in terms of weight, LSx and aluminum SBCs are tied. My...

    The future is direct drive

Yes, that´s the idea. The way Mr. Steve Wittmann did to his Buick engine, the only diference being the prop extension, wich is a simple unit, Saber´s like. Still in planing phase, though. Cheers

    The future is direct drive

I post this for "food for thought". This is how a IDD LSX RV7 would seem like: Note: 1. A spider like intake manifold would have to be used, in order to have a more streamlined cowling; 2. Only the lower cowling would have to be changed; 3. Two radiators would be instaled, one on each side...

    Direct drive SBC

This is how a DD LSXV8 RV7 would seem like: Notes: a. simple aluminum 4 inch prop extension; b. a conventional spider like intake manifold would be use, in order to allow a better streamlined lower cowling; c. only the lower cowling would have to be changed, in order to accomodate the...

    arctic cat snowmobile engines

As it may be of interest for you guys, the Mosquito XE285 helicopter sports a Arctic Cat 800 derived engine, and this engine is offered as OEM by the Mosquito Company. Derated to 85hp at 6000 rpm, seems to be holding up pretty well. Tailwinds.

Thanks a lot, Stol. I asked you that because the spline type coupling seem to hold up well the engine´s forces and pulses and, therefore, could be usefull in a propeller forces isolating device.

Hi, stol. I´ve been (still...) thinking about prop coupling devices for DDV8 instalations and have a doubt maybe you could help clarify. I´ve been looking (via web...) at those circle track / dirty track car transmissions and found that there are DD clutchless transmission set ups, in wich...

Cooling Schemes for Water Cooled Engines

Sorry for that, then, altough wsimpso1 didn´t seem to be so "low drag" oriented when he started this thread. Hence my sugestions regarding OEM "solutions". Marcvini
