    A practical UL trainer....or not?

This is the equivalent of the old R/C "buddy box" training system. Works OK in themodels, but I have to agree with TFF that I do not like any ground controlled solutions. Even considering that the intent is obviously safety and better training, I can still hear George Orwell laughing in the...

I was under the impression that this thread was about the most aesthetically beautiful airplane, not any of the other parameters.

Are tube spars an insult to the engineering community?

I believe that the plain language translation for this formula is" Shoot the engineer and ship the product."

    Simple, proven, off-the-shelf industrial V-twin?

Take two identical V-twins and mount them mirror image (flipped vertically) on the same mounting beam or plate. Put a gear on each PTO shaft, and in between the two PTO shafts put an idler gear that has a prop flange on it. This combines a reduction drive with larger displacement, creating a...

Low and Slow. Something safe to fly possibly based on the Volmer Jensen 23 hang glider. Any info on suitable airframe plans please ?

I just looked at a Dream Classic project in progress yesterday. Interesting, and very simple. The builder identified some areas where it seemed easier or more prudent to make a change... in this case because the tube didn't really want to make the kind of bend that was required without kinking...

Elon Musk REVEALS Tesla's new battery design

Perhaps he can also REVEAL why his PayPal company treated customers like me so !(#*$ poorly. I would not do business with him because of that experience.

Are tube spars an insult to the engineering community?

The Kolb ultralights and LSA's use tube spars very well. One of the clever things is that they moved the tube spar rearward, further aft than the maximum thickness point of the airfoil. This balanced the torsional loads, so that the nose-down pitching moment from the airfoil balanced the nose-up...

    Low and Slow......and quiet ?

Have a look at the Kolb Firefly as the starting point, it will get you 2/3 of the way there even before you start with the custom modifications. A highly muffled 4 stroke engine with a high ratio belt redrive, turning a large slow propeller, will be the big upgrades in the power department...

How did Beechcraft get those butter smooth controls ?

I think you answered your own question there :) I have zero PIC time in the Bonanza, so I can't comment from experience. I am also aware that the Fairchild airplanes were supposed to have exceptionally delightful controls, but I don't have any time in those either.

Narfi's Scratch Built Zenith 750 Super Duty

Considering the kind of use that an airplane like this will get in Alaska, I'd say that some sort of corrosion protection is wise. A lot of people use epoxy primers, wash primers, self-etch spray primer, etc. But a couple of gallons of epoxy weighs something significant, what 20 or 30 pounds? I...
