    Flight Test Area

Seeking the path of least resistance: About halfway complete with the 40 hour flight test program and, newly retired from the military, it looks like I will be moving to get closer to my next job. Currently the aircraft is restricted to a 100 Nm mile radius from the airport it is based at and...

    Wing Bolt Torque

Thanks. Didn't know if the fact that its clamping wood versus metal changed anything. Certainly didn't want to crush the spar at this point.

    Wing Bolt Torque

Putting the wing on my Cassutt and for the life of me can't find the torque requirements anywhere. 4, 7.5" grip, AN5 bolts clamp around a wood spar through a heavy saddle on top and the frame on the bottom. Any suggestions?

    Builders Log

Seems to be an area with much interpretation. Can anyone provide examples of what has past the muster when completing their project? Just want to make sure what I had in mind is what the DAR has in mind. Thanks

    unpainted dacron

I covered the airplane 18 some months ago and only now am a few months to painting (waiting on winter). The aircraft has been in the garage for that time with the periodic exposure due to the door opening for the car it sits next to, Waiting so long hasn't jeopardized the fabric (UV) has it...

That sounds much better. Thanks for all of your help.

    O-200 engine mounts

What is the proper torque for the bolts? I found a reference stating 180-190 ft-lbs but that seemed rather high, mt

    O-200 engine mounts

Thanks, thats what I did though I didn't have the sleeves for the bushings. I guess I could make some but what is it for so that I can get the right material?

    O-200 engine mounts

Thanks for the quick reply. What does the rubber hoses pressed over the bushings accomplish? I didn't put the hoses on but can pull them to do so.

    O-200 engine mounts

Dumb question but I don't have an example to look at. Have an O-200 that we rebuilt and the kit came with 16 rubber pieces for the mounts; 8 external with their special washers and 8 conical. These are for two different installations and are not used together in the mount bosses right? Its...

    O-200 Question

I'll look again but everything is new and I even tried jumping it directly with a good set of cables.

    O-200 Question

Sorry its taken so long -- lost connectivity. That is such a subjective thing to asses but the engine is tight. Not difficult to move by hand but the rebuilt starter wont budge it. Pulled the plugs and still nothing. That is why we started to look for other issues I don't recall it being...

    O-200 Question

I removed the drive adapter and the gear that drives it from the end of the camshaft. We have not tried starting the engine yet, only turning it over by hand so far, with the original complaint being that the freshly overhauled starter would not turn the motor. The original diagnosis to that...

    O-200 Question

I overhauled an O-200 for my Cassutt and followed a recommendation made by this website: Harry Fenton on Continental Engines wherein he states, "Remove the cam gear and any parts associated with the vacuum pump drive. The vac pump gear acts like a big fan and will blow all of the oil of the...

    Anyone built/building a Cassutt?

I've been working on a project for about 1.5 years now. If I knew what I was doing, and didn't have a job, it could probably be ready for paint in about two months. I'm hoping for a flight this summer.

    Registration of your homebuilt.

Do you certify as well? I don't understand what you are charging for to get a N number?

    Dragonfly

This one has a HAPI 2180, and an Ellison TB; a mechanic friend I know gave VW engines a big thumbs down. That said he only had expeerience with one. and he didn't know which one, so I didn't want to be guided by one rumor and came here instead. Thanks for your insights.

    HAPI Engines any good?

Considering a Dragonfly that has a 2180cc HAPI installed but I don't know much about them. I've heard everything from you can't run away fast enought to no real issues. Any advice would be appreciated.
