    Analog tach for VW

I might try this one. The price is right. The red is probably easier to read. Thanks.

    Analog tach for VW

I have a Tiny Tach which works fine. However, I can't read it when the light is bad. I like to fly at sunrise and the low sun angle makes the display unreadable. I am looking for an old style tach with a regular old style dial with a white needle that will work with a magneto or the Great...

    Replacing Force One seal?

There were light wear grooves. I don't think they were deep enough to cause a problem. But, there was some raggedy machine work done when the hub was made. There are some ugly lathe tool marks that didn't clean up when the bearing and sealing surface was ground. The tool marks are probably...

    Replacing Force One seal?

I finished assembling it today and took it up for a while. It is still leaking! Nowhere near as bad as it was but it did leak. I don't know what to make of it. Maybe it is leaking around the outside of the bearing or between the case halves. Hard to tell when there is oil everywhere. I...

    Replacing Force One seal?

Great Plains info on the Force One prop hub is scattered and incomplete. This post is to provide and consolidate reference material. Basic installation instructions are in the Type 1 VW Engine Assembly Manual. There are also instructions online but they appear to be from the old website...

What did you do on your airplane project today?

Worked on installing my Force One prop hub back on the VW. Got it cleaned up and seals installed. I torqued the prop hub bolt to spec and the holes in the bolt head and the prop hub for the cotter pin didn't line up. Great Plains says to thin the washer under the bolt head to index the holes...

    Aircraft Design Using .028" Tube?

Indeed! I have started some calculations to see where I might go with this. It will take some time.

    Aircraft Design Using .028" Tube?

Interesting! The VR3 Legal Eagle tubing list is available here: Technical Documents | VR3 Engineering It is all .035" tube except a sleeve in the lower longeron splice. Where does the Cassutt use .028"?

    Aircraft Design Using .028" Tube?

So nobody knows of any designs that use a lot of .028" wall tube. I can't find anything either. There is 400' here. Ought to be about enough to make a fuselage. The 7/8"x.028 doesn't seem to be available anymore. None at ASS, Airparts or Wicks and Google turns up nothing. Guess I will have...

    Aircraft Design Using .028" Tube?

I inventoried some 4130 tube that was donated to the chapter by the family of a deceased club member. There are 20 pieces total. It is all 5/8", 3/4" and 7/8" OD and it is all .028" wall thickness. It seems a little unusual since .035" seems to be standard. I know some designs use a few...

Wittman Tailwind modified to meet E-LSA?

There was a Tailwind project on Barnstormers that was advertised as an LSA designed by Calbie Woods. You may know Woods designed the metal wing for the Tailwind. Here's the link: BARNSTORMERS.COM Find Aircraft & Aircraft Parts - Airplane Sale, Jets, Helicopters, Experimental, Warbirds &...

    What can happen

I have the 2122 carb also. I also had a problem with the bowl overfilling. I thought it was the needle and seat leaking so I replaced it. It didn't help. It took a while but I discovered it was leaking under the base of the seat. Zenith did not machine the surface where the gasket seats...

    What can happen

I didn't have much success with a timing light. You might just follow Great Plains instructions to static time it. Their method works well! Secondary Ignition Installation Instructions

    Boat, Plane. Plane, Boat.

There used to be one just below Osborne on the San Fernando Rd. on the wrong side of the tracks that I ate at a few times about 40 years ago. There weren't any gang bangers around back then. Looking at Google maps I see Casa Jalisco down there. I wonder if that is the same place?

    Replacing Force One seal?

The prop hub gave up the fight today and popped loose. It was one of the most satisfying sounds I have heard lately! I made a plate from 3/4" steel to bolt to the prop flange to spread the load. I put the body of the puller behind the plate and pulled against the plate. The plate is part of...

    Replacing Force One seal?

The puller didn't work so far. I tried it with a puller that hooks around the outside edge of the prop flange in two places. I put as much pressure on it as I felt comfortable with and hit it as hard as I felt comfortable with and it didn't move. The puller did put a curve in the prop flange...
